To Jig or Not to Jig, that is the question

In his book, Bait Tail Fishing, Al (ALOU) Reinfelder states that one should jig a jig during the day but at night one should just use a slow, steady retrieve with your jig.
What is your experience at night with jigs?

I spend a lot of time in the canal and I fish it the same day or night, with the exception of the color of the jigs.

I think you should try all kinds of techniques til you start catching. then , stick with what's working. Hmmmm too simple?
