If all else fails, at least you'll be ready for the return of the Conestogas, when ol' Mother Nature gives up the last of her oil.:D It will be interesting to see what you come up with now.

Made the Vise block out of scraps I had laying around ,, purple heart octagon,,birch dowel pilars and hard maple platform .. Almost cut my fingers off making the octagon,, No big deal , I'd fit in with the gang better at the christmas party . I picked up the wrong size wing nut at home depot ,,had to nut it . The brand new spoke shave I got works great ,,the one off ebay needs work .. horrible ., Could have used some files too I think .. This could be even more addictave ..

Backbeach Jake 02-20-2006 05:07 PM

Tagger, you waste no time! That's a cool lookin' plug ya got going there. Leave your fingers on, if ya don't it'll throw your handshake off. You're awesome.:claps:

Tagger 02-20-2006 05:26 PM

thanks ... The blade in the ebay Stanley 151 spoke shave was junk .. I just ordered a new blade for $5.00 from Rose ... Some really nice carving tools there.. When do the free lures kick in ?

capesams 02-20-2006 05:31 PM

do you mean dull? or just all pitted.

Tagger 02-20-2006 05:53 PM

rounded up on the ends,,I'm working it on a stone .. I think they might have planed the heads on a 327 chevy with it ... Ordered a "Pounce Wheel "too for transfering patterns on to wood . Thought I could size fish ,print out and transfer to cand carve,, or cut up really small pizzas

Nice Tagger, the addiction grows. More tools, more wood, more plugs when does it all stop?

numbskull 02-20-2006 09:58 PM

What goes around, comes around, Tagger. It was your enthusiasm and the quality of your work that got me started building plugs again. I'm glad something you can enjoy has come out of it as well.

I'm really only using 1 spoke shave , the round one ..
used the exacto knife to cut gills,, don't need a dremmel tool ..
Look up other Numbskull handcarve post ,,,awesome tips..
I'm using white pine ,,cuts like butter ..
I'm just pissed I never tried this before .. Numbskull inspired.. thanks again George ..I suggest you jump right in Diggin Jiggin .. all of yous guys,, try it you'll like it ..

The feeling is mutual .. "NUMBSKULL" BUILDER of the YEAR

numbskull 02-21-2006 10:11 PM

Tagger, I think you'll have even better control with the flat shave for all but sharp inside curves. The blades should be interchangable. You might want to try switching back and forth until you can sharpen the old blade. You've also picked a good plug (the Big-O) to copy. I took a #40 on that same plug this fall. My best fish in years. I lost the plug a day later (it fell out of my bag........ouch) and replacing it is one of the reasons I started fooling with hand-shaped stuff this winter.
