Calcuttas & Prize money
This came up in another thread, but I want to see how you guys handle it.
I fish a few tournaments each season with a standard crew, the same three guys have fished with me for two seasons now. We have an arrangement, I supply the boat, fuel, and tackle. They bring food and drink and cover all entry fees and calcuttas. When we win money, we have split it four ways. Many other guys have approached me and said I was getting the short end of the deal being that it is my boat. They say the boat takes a share or the skipper gets half, etc. But since we have won some cash in two of the past tournaments and set a precendt of spliting things equaly, I don't see how I can change the rules now....how do you handle things on your boat? Comments? |
4 people? all tourney fees and calcutta fees get split equally 4 ways.
if you win? all prize money gets split 5 ways. boat gets a share too. |
Hooper,
If that arrangement works for you and your buddies why change it. Nothing worse than argueing about money with friends. Seems to me things are split pretty good the way your doing it. If you were paying the entry fee yourself in addition to fuel then fine take a share for the boat. Wouldn't think about it in a precedence way just cause you did it before but better because it works. Now I suppose if with todays fuel rates if you are paying allot more on your end than your buddies than maybe some adjusting should be done. But I don't think you should get more in the end. Four ways even. You couldn't do the tourney without their help. |
Boat gets a share. Just spell it out before the season starts.

You've already set a precedent so it may be tough to change. If you're happy with it, just stay the same. Usual is to split winnings five ways, one share for the boat.

Picking a good partner/s I think is what it boils down to. I choose to fish alone 95% of the time, they refuse to wear blindfolds.
