tips for wearing glasses in the surf ?
Old Age is Hell. Just wondering what you do with your glasses when you fish the suds ?
|
I tried everything and nothing worked. Glasses are just a problem unless you wear goggles or a dive mask and look like a fool.
I had cataracts and had lenses implanted in my eyes so....no more glasses and it's GREAT!!!!! |
Get a pair of Croakies brand straps to hold your glasses on your head securely. Any sunglass store or Monahan Marine in Weymouth has them. (Not sure of your location)
|
wear mine no problems.
|
I wear mine too...
Getting contacts this year just for fishing... Foggy night's I'm blind in 20 minutes or so. Same thing if there is spray. Glasses turn white :af: :af:
|
Croakies are great. Another hint is to use Rain-X on those lenses. Salt spray will bead up and drip down, instead of drying and leaving spots of salt residue.
But Frank,...do NOT use Rain-X on your contacts. |
Since I can't wear contacts, I have to use glasses and it is a curse while fishing the surf. That fine mist will kill you everytime. I've never used rain X on the glasses in fear of damaging the anti-glare or whatever coatings but I have used this purple formula that I still see for sale at fishing shows. It tends to keep better visibility over a short time, like a couple of hours.
|
Yea, the mist is deadly...getting contacts this spring.

I just lick them off once in a while.
|
there are anti mist goggles
then apply the rain x to them and make sure you buff it out afterwards so its perfectly clear..

Lasix surgery
|
I stick paper towles in zip locks under my dry top. It's still a pain and I wait till it gets real bad before I go digging. On a partcular nasty night, I remember having to bend down and go nose to belly on a fish before I could tell if there stripes - glasses do suk!
|
Eye Glasses and Surf or Boat Do Not Mix
I tried contacts for a few days and I hated them....either the laser surgery or contacts again.... salt and sand in the air and fog and waves.... glasses are a true impediment to fishing. :liquify: :liquify:

you must be not fishing at the right times and places :spin:
glasses suck unless the weather and spot are fine.... ahhhh... the days when I had 20/20.... long gone now :usd: |
they make a hockey mask defog that can be used on eye glasses
|
I leave em in the truck . Im not a coke bottle wearer and can see just fine with out them . they sure are a PIA when there is fog or spray .
|
Ya, I take them off, usually..if I don't, they fall off, into the salt and get scratched by barnacles or something..
|
Wait til you stay up all night with contacts in and try and pry them out and those bad boys are stuck cuz ya een wearin em too long. Or... the dreaded wave to the face saltwater and sand behind the lense cornial scratch... Lasix for me.
|
I usually end up putting mine in my pocket, I thought about contacts
But I have byfocals |
my vision plan cover lasix, but I cant see taking vacation time to recover from it.. thats fishing time man..
|
Contacts are OK, but then I gotta wear reading glasses. Sorta defeats the purpose. The contacts are great for seeing distances.
|
I use Ranix on mine. I just chake my head and they clear right up!!
They are a lot easier to clean too, nothing seems to stick to them!! |
RainX here and a bottle of freash water for cleaning them off from time to time.
I have a buddy that just licks them off, I tryed it but just can't stand the taste!! Besides the doc says I have to watch my salt intake :usd: |
Dude, rec-specs.

Can't speak personally on this one as I've never needed glasses, but I know several people who couldn't be happier with the results of lasix. |
I have thought about it, but I have 3 different visions?? And were Bi-Focals. I will have to see if I can do something?? I have only had glasses the last 3 years.

contacts
After getting a couple of waves over the head and worrying about losing my glasses I decided to get daily disposible lenses just for fishing. This way if I lose one Im not out too much $ . I keep a couple of spare pairs in the truck. Im not comfortable wearing contacts all the time so this works for me.
|
Never heard of them?? they cost much?? Just ask my doc for them?? Thanks
|
I have Acuvue disposable bi-focal contacts. I wear a pair 24/7 for 3 weeks at a time. I scuba dive and swim with my eyes open and never had a issue with a lost contacts.
If contacts are for you save big money and call 1-800-contacts. This was not intended to sound like a commercial. You can always wear the contacts when your in the surf and take them off when you get home. During your next eye exam ask for both glass and contact subscription. Mr. Magoo |
