Bought a new 8wt reel
 

I have always been known to be "parsimonius" ( read-> Cheap) when it comes to gear. Not buying junk but a common sense approach to the world of Saltwater Flyfishing. Yesterday on the way home from work I stopped into a local shop and they had just put out a couple new reel on the shelf. I liked the look of them so I had the counter man let me handle one. After a minute I looked up and told him I would take it. I have a new Orvis 8 wt that I added to my collection last fall that I never used because all my reels are showing there age and my two other 8 wt', my 9, my 10, and my 7wts all have reels and I wasn't going to put the last spare Sci Angler on it which is almost powder now.

The reel is a Cortland EnduranceII, around 100.00 bucks, large arbor, machined aluminum with an aesome drag and silent retreive (no annoying click) It fits perfectly on the Orvis and holds 230 yds of 20 pound micron backing plus a 90 ft AirFlo monocore 8wt. Should be a lot of un come this spring and summer. I was really impressed with how much reel there is for the dough.:kewl:

The price is right. A good drag is an important consideration. Let us know how it holds up after a season. Corrosion resistance will only be determined with time.

Cant beat a tioga for the money. If you rinse them religously they are almost bullet proof and you cant beat the warranty, it is no fault. You can pick up a brand new 8 for about a buck thirty.

That is huge amount of backing. Must be a reely big reel.

Micron is probably half the diameter of traditional dacron backing

I also use a Teton Tioga, and agree that it costs less than it's worth. Great reel, durable. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I have some retirement money and I'm going to treat myself. Going for the Tibor Riptide with an extra spool. FishHawk:bounce:

I just scored an able super 8 on e-bay this winter. My christmas present to me. I am dying to us it. I got the extra spool (big game 3) which I loaded a 10 weight and 500 yards of backing on. Bring on the Bluefin!
