Adjust Tail Action

1 Attachment(s)
Just got done test swimming a swimmer and it seems like the tail kicks out a little to far. Is there a way to adjust the action of the tail wag? If this helps the plug is unweighted.

add a bucktail or a tail weight.

The big head is causing the small tail to whip!
Make the head smaller or make the plug longer. Maybe put some fins on it:bl:

A keel on the tail end. Now if that's not thinking "Out of the Box"
I don't know what is. :bl:

Up the hook size on the tail. That will add a little more weight. Could also add some bucktail to the hook.

Sometimes with the tail slightly out of water while moving can be DEADLY:grins:

Hey Rooster.

Here's what I would try - but without seeing the plug in person, this is only a guess. That thing has a huge head and a big lip on it. Lip is probably making the head want to take a dive but since it is unweighted it really doesn't want to go under. I would definately put a siwash tail on the back - but throw a pretty substantial slug of lead in the belly - either just in front or just in back of the belly hook. No guarantee - but I suspect that that plug would need to be stabalized quite a bit.

upon further review - put the slug of lead just behind the belly hook. Front hook is too far up for a slug of lead in front.

Seriously, I appreciiate all your input and have decided to add a dressed hook on the tail and add some lead as well. But the plug doesn't get all erradict or anything like that it's tail just swings out quite a ways but actually makes a really nice wake. I'll probably keep this one the way it is and turn some more and do some Experimenting as you all have suggested.

Thanks

I'd start by weight in the belly and bigger rear hook. Have fun.
What lip is that?

sportyguy33 03-17-2006 12:48 AM

I forgot what lip it is but I think its a Lefty lip center hole.

I cut the slot dead center so the wire went in at the chin. What effect does the lips placement have on the plugs. Would I have had a different action if I would have raised the lip?

Flap tail on the back could be a posibility too ..
