capt bills lures, question on hook holders

got a capt bill swimmer on e-bay, a beater and I looked at the hook holders and wonder it someone tampered with it. it don't have swivels or screw eyes. it looks like some one made a loop like the loop in the frount of a medal liped swimmer and then bent the wire like a u , so the loops on the bottom the wire gos up into the hook hole and turns in a u back down. the the thru wire go thru and holds the looped wire in.is this factory or did some one mess with it. the hole ain't a clean drill, kind of a mess, but then again its old and used. the thru wire looks like brass and old. I've never owned one before, lived near the old atom factory. had tons of 2nds. thanks ed

That's the way they did it. Flaptail has a bag of the original hook hangers. The holes are rough as well, I've got an unwired body. Very big through drill hole as well.

CS was the wood sealed? Why would they cut the lip slot after? No belly weight?

capesams 03-19-2006 09:05 PM

this one had no lead in the tail...and looked like it wasn't sealed at all...it had lot of light water stains tht don't relly show up in the pic.......made from some sort of soft pine.

So it was a use it for a while then tro it on the defroster plug.Pretty much the way all wood my swimmers where.I have hahns that I sealed up around the swivels beacuse after 30 mins they where useless.i just gotta figure out how to get the hooks out the vent better.
