window replacement contractor

I have to replace two bay windows in the house this spring. Anyone know a reputable contractor who could handle this job. I priced the windows out with Loews and Home Depot and cost for a Pella or Anderson Bay my size is about $1300 a unit. The first estimate I got from a contractor this week was $5400. Guess his time is valuable! Just looking for a fair price and quality craftsmanship. Any suggestions?

you may be paying around 2500 just for the install
5400 is probably a little steep but if you consider that might include staining, replacing the trim inside, and finishing off all the trim outside. You didn't mention how high off the ground etc.
ya get what ya pay for usually, just watch out if you hire lowes or HD
good luck

a good rough estimate:
Materials= 1/3
Labor= 2/3

ya get what ya pay for! Insurance aint free!

Lots of variables. How big, how heavy determines how many men on site. Is rough opening going to be the same, or does it need to be reframed? Exterior trim and knees not included in price of window. Interior finish and trim can be extras. Roof kits? Or building with plywood, then water and ice, flashing, dripedge, and asphalt shingles? Removing the old and getting the new window in feels like your home free, but the trim out is 75% of the job.......

Mike,

can you see if your son can give me an estimate on this job if he has time available?

I dont plan on using Home Depot or Loews just comparing material costs vs the estimate I got for $5400 to see how much of this contractors vacation to Aruba I was paying for if I went with him. This same contractor gave me a $5700 roof estimate that I was able to get done for $3300. If anyone needs a roofer my guy was great, I would highly recommend him not just for cost but for quality. :jump:
