Its official-

Today on my lunch break, i went for a stroll ldown to my local herring run. There was a DEM officerinstalling a new sign at the run that said all taking of and possession of herring is illegal until further notice-

I am happy for this, lets hope they make a strong comeback.

eben,
I agree......people may not like it now but they will be happy five years from now when herring make a stong comeback

Springtides 03-22-2006 03:04 PM

AHhhhhh no more chasing herring.... what a relief :) :buds: ... I was worried about RI with MA taking them off the list... I figured the pressure would be BAD. Hopefully they'll monitor the runs well and prosecute all poachers.....

That's good news... :kewl:

Now they need to do the same for adult menhaden.

That's good news - I rather try to imitate a herring the a stripper

There is no doubt that something had to be done, but I wonder if more stringent enforcement of poaching coupled with the tightening of the commercial regulations may have acheived the desired results.

Herring

It worked for the stripers. It should work for the herring as well.:kewl:

Clammer is right on.U think about what gets takin in the few runs by the recs in each state an add em all together daily. One boatload triples that.Bycatch. no less. One thing is for sure though if they don't get in to spawn they won't.Some States have their head up there butts we have a open end season these fish are NOT protected as the ENTER the waterways where they are most accessible to spawn. On the way out OK, on the way in NO Good.the season should be closed till MaY here in NJ. but its open now an guys are takin em.
