Determining gallons per hour

Is there an equation for figuring how many gallons per hour are burned? I did a search on google.com but only found
older 2 stroke GPH = hp/10
newer 2 stroke GPH = hp/12
4 stroke GPH = hp/15
(all based on running full throttle)

I would think that the weight of the boat would come into play as well.

The boat in question is a 22ft privateer w/1989 150hp johnson.

Also the condition of the water and the type of hull you have on your boat and the resitance and friction of your boat cutting threw the water...... I don't know much about boats so thats just a guess :)

I don't know any equations, but I'd like to add a question. How do you determine your best cruising speed of your rig?

And what kind of idiot boat dealer forgets to hook up the fuel gauge on some poor guys new boat. Had the motor running yesterday and noticed the fuel gauge not working. Upon further inspection, the wire to the gauge is hooked up to NOTHING. At least the light on it works.
