WHAT KIND OF KNIVES WE CARRY

Getting the gear ready for the season and noticed my titanium dive knife can't hold and edge any more.....time for a new one

Wondering what kind of knives we are using either in our bag, on our belt or on our leg.

i never carry a knife.

Raven 03-28-2006 04:56 PM

i usually have two knives on me at ALL times... all my tools have to
be as "sharp" as a razor.

i have weapons at the ready strategically positioned near my doors.

for fishing i usually have a buck filet knife strapped on my hip.

in my kitchen i have a sword where i can get to it in a hurry.

i keep a dingo ....that can hear a pin drop.

i sleep very lightly next to my shotgun.

i dont trust anyone farther than i can throw them unless they earned it.

Like SALTY...i have been burned way to many times. :hs:

I have been in the surf for 30+ years and never carried a knife. I can't think of an instance where I needed one either. I have several in my truck but my pliers with the side cutters always seems to be enough.

RIROCKHOUND 03-28-2006 05:16 PM

I carry a short kitchen knife on my belt. Usually add another on my calf or arm if I'm wetsuiting in rough/rocky water... the back-up is a mychelyn (spelled wrong I know) shark knife which is a small 1 piece safety knife.

Diggin Jiggin 03-28-2006 05:37 PM

Just a small rapala fillet knife on my belt on my right hip. Funny thing is when I'm jigging I use the knife all the time, cutting braid and changing frayed leaders. It's the pliers I rarely need. Thats the best thing about a jig, they pop right out....

ThrowingTimber 03-28-2006 05:51 PM

Gerber paratrooper daily carry.

Blunt nosed I forget the name dive knife if Im in the wetsuit. Stupid freakin Lobster POTS!!!!!!!! :af:

I keep a good, sturdy fixed blade knife on me. I forget the exact brand. Contrary to popular belief its not for fighting off sharks, breaking locks on fences, or killing people on who are in my spot. Its for cutting through all that supposedly "non-ripable materail" your gear's made of. Lets say you get knocked down your bag, belt, what ever is wedged under a rock or something and you can't get up. Now you're about to drown as waves conitiue to wash over you, but you don't because you cut the bag strap and save your life rather than fumbling with the strap. Completely hypothetical, hope it doesn't happen, but it could.

Aragorn 03-28-2006 07:07 PM

I carry a basic 6" filet knife with the tip blunted, it is easier to gut, scale fish on the water then in the kitchen
