Surfster
I want to build a surfster but since I've never even seen a true surfster much less fished one I'm a little short on details . I know the basic shape and lip layout but don't know how it should swim . I've read that the tail should clear the water , is this true ?
I'd appreciate any info on surfster building I can get . |

Good choice with the 7400 series, 7& 1/4 inches and anywhere from 2&1/2 to 4oz for your heavy surf. Key ,imho, is the lip ,with the NJ TACKLE large surfster lip ya can't go wrong.

NJ makes lips for the big and med. sized ones.........still looking for a lip for the small ones. |
Anyone have some history on the surfster?

The 7400 Salt Surfster was the largest they made and was last produced in 1959 . It was listed as 7.25 inches long and weight was 2.5 oz . It was available in 8 colors (00,01,02,07,18,34,35,37) . |
It started when the early striper fisherman started to beef up the regular ccbco pikies with lead and larger hooks, but they wouldnt hold up in the surf and would be destroyed and they werent satisfied so these guys made lure companies all along the east coast gibbs, atom, jude, Bills, Russo, masterlure and select others. They had great succes s which started to scare the big companies like heddon, and ccbco. So to compete with the fisherman ccbco hit the market in 1953 with an entire line of salty plugs that were made for the striper guys, spin darter, surf darter, striper pikie, 3 sizes of the surfster which is the best one of them i think and the large surf popper. Hope that helps.:walk:
