Current Gibbs Opinions

Posting here because you guys know plugs.

Considering getting a variety of large Gibbs in Mackerel paint.

1st: Have heard many negatives about quality nowadays....opinions?

If I beef up the split rings for those that have them and heavy up on the hooks what else do I have to worry about?

Any info. is appreciated,

Got several pencils last year. One sat almost horizontal, one sat at a 45, the third sank.... Each one was a differrent weight, all the same length....

Always carry a few gibbs needles in the spring for shallow water....

I've found my pencils, polaris poppers and 1.5 Oz. dannies to be fine(all bought within the last 3 years). I wouldn't touch the an of the 2+ Oz. dannies or any of the diving swimmers. I would check out the Bait Shack in Orleans. Last time I was there they had some pogie, mackeral, and herring pencil popppers. They also had some Gibbs plugs with older looking labels. I have not been in the game that long so I don't know when the quality started to go down hill.

If you're looking for mackeral I would try out some of the new gag's plugs. plenty of mackeral there. Just don't buy the flippin' mullet:doh:
