Needle for the Cape questions
Doing a trade and as part of it I'm making a needle for someone to take fishing up at the Cape. I've never been there (but need to make up for that soon) and haven't much of a clue what to do for him.
For Jersey it would be a sinker, about 7", two sets of hooks - belly and tail, and black with some glitter. If you could only have one needle to bring up to the Cape how would you build it? Sinking or floating Length Weight Number of hooks and size Color |
Hard to choose just one
but I'd say slow sinking 7" - 7-1/2" about 2-1/2 oz 1 belly 3/0 and a single siwash tied bucktail size 6/0 maybe color = black top over gold middle over silver belly  weight it so there is counterweight forward also, not just arse weight. |
Better make three cause one needle won't fit the three typical conditions of the outer cape surf.
One that is lightly weighted and stays on top for calm dark nights in shallow water. One that will sink slowly and have no problem maintaining trim in a moderate swell And the last one to drag the sea floor when the wind is in your face and the water if wild. |
Needles do not work on the Cape!!!!
