Bass Clubs, Bass Stands......
Anyone know anyplace where I can find some good vintage pics of Bass Stands around New England? Something about bass stands, I just find them fascinating... I tried searching the web and found very little info.

I think you are going to have to take a research trip to Cuttyhunk and go to the historical society.

Try contacting Crafty Angler....he will surely be able to help.

I love rusty old pipes sticking out of rocks. :kewl: Better yet I like standing on them in the middle of the night.

If you ever have the chance to float along the Elizabeths and cast into the rocks as I do there are tell tale signs all over. Holes in rocks mostly very little physical remains otherwise. Pasque especially is pockmarked with them. I have a friend who has a copy of the map of the island showing all the satnds there and they surrounded Pasque. Most locations are still viable places to cast a plug into to this day.
I remember when I lived in Worcester going many times to Beavertail on Jamestown and there were pipes all over the place drilled into the ledges. I have pics of some but will have to take pictures of the pictures with my digital camera. The east side had a few and that is where we did best. I haven't been there in 25 years now so I have no idea if they are there still though. |

Last three years I've found one per season....all with the wetsuit(couldn't find'um without it) all have been over there. Found this at dead low near holy rock:) In luv with that kind of history...always wonder who was on that rock last, Pres. Roosevelt maybe?

Most of the stands from days gone by were built out of convenience.Fish in the footprint if you want but lets face it,unless you have a chummer bringing in the bass most likely you're bumming.Definitely nostalgic but todays fishermen, given our modern amenities like waders and korkers are finding SPOTS that our yesteryear brethren could only dream of.There aren't too many spots the stands once were that would be my first choice on a given night.Early June culd be gravy time for plugging some of these not so secret SPOTS.:soon:

The bass stands are very good spots when the fish are there and they are biting .

By George I've got him!

check these out... old prints of bass stands along the Elizabeth Islands.
If you haven't already been, make the pilgrimage to the Cuttyhunk Fishing Club; it's walls are plastered with old photos. It's the Cooperstown of striped bass fishing. |
Not seeing anything, anyone else?
|

Happened to me on the Vinyard. Walking through a boulder field in the dark I put my hand down right next to a 10 inch spike could have been really dangerous. We were about 40 yrds from shore and it freaked me out also. Then I realized what it was and moments later we were onto good fish.
