Settled on a stick
My new eel slinger is a Lami SSB136 3M cut down to 10' all off the butt. This will be my first glass rod and I'm pumped to throw snakes with it.Anybody here with any time on this blank?Feels like plenty of stopping power for my favorite haunts.:musc:

I built a 121-3M last winter and used all last season, love it.

16-30 ounce fish...you shouldn't have any problems :hee:

Pulled back a 39 lber 100 yds in a 5 kt current after it was wupped by the best fish stomping power rod known to man...
Alright so i embelished a little. It is a great stick The parabolic bend of a glass rod juts beats the crapp out of em.it can be a little heavy but it never bothered me.I was glad I had it that night as i will go with the 11 ft graphite rod when I need to cast further. Not sure i could have leaned on a gsb as hard.it's different casting u have to wait on it.It won't thro as far but that won't matter with eels an some might say it's not as sensitive.but the glass is still a great choice for eelin.Alot of quality fish have been taken on it and It's what NIB uses.:D |
my go-to rod after june 1st rolls around :boots:

I wouldn't worry about the weight. One, S-glass is an ounce or two lighter than standard glass to start with, and two, you're losing the heaviest part of the blank after it's cut.
The 121 3M at full length has more stopping power than a 136 cut back from the butt, but you can't get the 121 in S-glass. It's a very slight advantage, however. Both of them will turn a fish faster than any graphite--or, at least any graphite you'd want to use for snakes. |
I have the 121 3m in the funny yellow cost me almost nothing.
I love it for jiggin its not as responsive I really think that makes a difference wit jigs 1.5-3 oz. |
Well, judging from the responses it seems like I'll be happy with the choice.I was considering the SB 121 3M but it seemed a little excessive for the size range of snakes you run into. Also looking forward to throwing pencils with this weapon.:sled:

Good workhorse blank. Conventional or spin? |
Spin, like #^^^^^^& says I "still have my training wheels on"

One of my all time favorite sticks, mine is cut to 10'6" tho, i thnk its a better length. That stick will basically do anything, and its diesel, you can beat the heck out of it. Throws eels real well, and just wait till you work a canal special pencil with it...:humpty:
