Kicked up Korkers...
 

As I was modding my Korkers w/SS screws... I had the brain storm (well drizzle), to just go ahead and bolt the Korkers to my shoes. Hell I can count on one hand the times I DON'T use Korkers in a season. Used them once so far in fresh water. I'm thinkin' I'm going to like this. No laces, no slipping sandal. We'll see how well they hold up, or hold on I should say.

Let me know if they don't work. I have an old pair of metal spiked golf shoes ready for the dumpster. I think they are nubuck brown, size 11. Oh yeah, you can have them for zippo. :hee:

Some of the gang use to wrap the korkers on their boots with wire ties and never take them off. Pain in the A... if your doing much driving in your gear or going from rocks to sand beach and back. The wire ties were also insurance to keep them from falling off.

i had a cobbler ( shoe repair guy ) friend of mine cut the straps off of mine, and glue and nail them to the bottom of my wading shoes....never had to deal with them again

I just hate the way my ankle twists, let us know how it works

I don't think baseball cleats would work. The spikes are too broad, and the space in the midsole without any spikes is too large. I'm even reluctant to use anything but the tungsten spikes. There's too much at stake.

I have the korkers with the snaps and have never had a snap release. Do you guys have trouble loosing these or the ones with the laces?

I like to walk to the spot with them off to preserve the tips a little. Especially in some spots where there's a lot of walking over rocks or roads.

Stop the insanity!! Just put the damn things on and wrap 2 turns of duct tape around them. A whole roll of duct tape last me a season and cost 3 or 4 bucks. You don't want to drive with the korkers on, cut the tape and take them off. It no big deal. We have done this for 20 years and never lost a korker and 95% of my fishing is with korkers.

Where do you get the saltwater duck tape? :hee:

Seriously, bolting them on took about 30 min. You only do it once. And they are solid. No laces, no straps, nothing.

I never lost a Korker w/o tape.

If they self destruct I'll let everyone know it.

As an aside...

Last year I tried Jerry Bailey(?) stream cleets... Nice, Very nice...

for about 1 month, then the aluminum bars wear out and your screwed.

How long are the screws? I'd be afraid of drilling through the waterproof layer in the footbed.

I guess I should mention they are stocking foot waders. My "wading boots" are Target's finest $20 canvas hiking boots. I remove all the
sole inserts, drilled 8-10 holes and bolted the Korker to the shoes. I doubt screws would work w/o laces etc. I'm not 100% convinced the bolts won't pull out. We'll see.

Also I cut the back off the korker, as well as the laces straps, etc.

I also replaced the carbide spikes w/ss bolts. I'm around 200lb w/o gear and I jump around the rocks pretty hard. I was replacing 3-4 rounded spikes/shoe a trip. Not the end of the world, but it gets old after a while.

Ahhh, now I see how you can do it. If they were bootfoot waders you would be walking with boots full of water...

I suggest taking a hack saw and cut out a slot right in the middle of the korkers, so your boots can flex more..
your going to feel like frankinstien with those korkers mounted to your shoes..

Why not buy Korker's wading shoes with the interchangable soles??

If the boots are not water proof, why not just put the stainless screws through the soles and turn the boots into korkers, then buy another cheap pair for non korker areas.. :tm:

Tried that... not as easy as it sounds. I'm sure on some boots that would work. On mine it would have been a PIA. plus the sole rubber is much softer than the korker rubber. You would feel the bolts push up on rockey areas.

B. Nope... Worn 'em twice trout fishing a very slippery river. They performed fine and were quite comfortable both on rocks and hiking thought he woods.

I do plan on doing this for when I will only be on the beach. The korker attachment is permanent. I do not plan on removing them.
