Something I've got to try,,,
Working 2nd shift and gettin out at 1:00 am,,,,,, I've got to try flyfishing at night in the pocket at _____________!
Anyone else flyfish in the wee hours of the morn? Gotta be a "hoot" with a new moon and all's as black as my Lab. (LOL):fishslap: |
Yep. Up here in Salem, we call it the "witching hour" :-)
|
Absolutely best time just protect your eyes from errant casts. One of my best fly caught stripers was taken around midnight way up in back in an estuary drifting a black fly that looked like a small eel on a fast sinking line dragged along the bottom. At first I thought I snagged the bottom that was until it started to move. Not my biggest striper ever but 19 lbs on an orvis clearwater 8 wt in a ripping current it was a very memorable catch. I love drifting flies in the current at night.

After May 99% of my fishing is in the dark. No better time to be out there. You have it pretty good working second shift, I'd be out every night after work, and still be able to sleep. Can't tell you how many days I am like a zombie at work after fishing all night.
|
Best part,,,, 4 day workweek,,,, Fridays off! fish all morning til daylight, sleep all day.
Throwing plugs is one thing in the dark,,,, flyfishing could be a real trip! Literally!:hee: Great time to watch for UFOs when the bite is down. :alien: |
Advice
As in the aforementioned post......duck your head on the forecast you'll remain healthier.
|
After the spring schoolie-fest it's all deep-night and predawn.
|
I use squash clear safety glasses at night...find them in the tennis dept.
$ 2-3 bucks ......:spidey: eyeball priceless. not worrying about casting eyeball and having an instant hit, equally priceless LOL |
Pops-
Wonder if my yellow tinted driving glasses (M/C) would work??? Hmmm, I'll have to try them. Anyways, while I CAN see your point,,, good idea. Scoff some from work when I leave at night. :as: |
They have cheap reading glasses at your neighborhood drug store. Cost a couple of bucks. Great investment, your vision is priceless. I met a guy flyfishing in Milford CT flyfishing one night, who had a patch over one eye. You can guess what happened. Pinching down hook barbs doesn't only make it easier to release fish, it makes it easier to release fishermen.;)

2nd shift
I also work 2nd shift ,I'm usually back on the water by midnight if the tides are right, and if their not I 'm still out there, being on the cape the tides always right somewhere.:kewl:

That estuary would'nt be the one just south of the canal would it?Which happens to be my home away from home.
|
I have frequented the one you mention but was not where I caught the fish mentioned. I was further east.
