Bottom Help

I got luckey this year and was able to get a slip for my 18' striper CC . However I don't want to paint the bottom as it detracts from the value of the boat . any ideas of what I could put on the bottom to keep it from getting messed up.
I was thinking of a wax but I'm not sure.

thanks
TSPS

sorry dude, unless you want to trailer it, bottom paint is your only option.

MakoMike 04-24-2006 01:55 PM

There is a wax that is used on boats that will only be in the water for a short time. Other than that your only option is paint.

Mike is right, but it is good for about a week or so before you start seeing slime

eelman 04-24-2006 02:32 PM

I just put mine in a slip today! No bottom paint, I like you do not want to paint it. He told me that if I took it out once every two weeks and power washed I would be fine. Since I am only leaving it in until june 1st, I should be ok with a couple of quik power washdowns in between ( I hope). He also told me that because the water temps are still on the cold side, the nasty stuff wont really grow yet like it does in the hot summer months?? At anyrate for a month I should be fine. I should mention that before I made this descision not to paint, I called the dealer for his advice and he also said that a month would not hurt it....at anyrate we will see. After june 1st I plan on trailering everywhere.........

It depends on where you are really, but he is right on about this time of year. But in anycase you will see slime, but as long as you plan on pulling it and keeping it under control your fine.

Bill, I'm sure Clammer will show you how to clean any stains you may get, he cleans his all the time...
I used to leave mine in a week at a time and it always cleaned up fine. Like Bill said, it may become harder to keep up with in the summer with all the algea.

Oh ok, if it was a week at a time I shouild be fine, I thought you only left it in for a couple days? anyway....Yours looks clean so I will rest easy! I really need clammers advice on how to keep the boat clean...Thanks for that tip:shocked:

as a lifelong boater i have to say, #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&, that is a really bad decision. The growth is so bad in the bay. If you let it sit even for a week extra you get barnacles, shells, all this nasty sh*t on there. i get some barnacles even with bottom paint.
BESIDES THAT>you are going to leave your boat soaking and prone to osmotic blisters. seal it up an bottom paint, its the only choice, imho...

eelman 04-24-2006 02:50 PM

Well, if I do it say ,every saturday with the wash down, will it be ok till june 1st? Now your making me worry!

RIROCKHOUND 04-24-2006 02:58 PM

Billy;
You should be all set, however keep a close eye on it...
we dropped the r/v in the bay last june and had a scum line in about a week.
Just wash it well!

zacs 04-24-2006 03:08 PM

i'm sorry, i didn't read that it was only til 6/1. I am talking all season. same thing with my PM. if you are leaving it all season you need to bottom paint it. sorry for the confusion.
Zac

Just keep an eye on it

the biggest problem is the fact that your in a slip, the slips breed slime, so it's a catch 22 hahah.

TSPS 04-24-2006 03:12 PM

:hidin:
what would be the best wax to use , I plan on pulling it but every week might be tuff.

ScottC 04-24-2006 05:41 PM

Let me make a call tomorrow, I can find out what it is. I remember useing is about 8 years ago on a race boat, but I can't remember the name. When it came back a few weeks later is was covered in slime, but was very easy to to wash off

Just do a high speed beaching once a week!! may want to lift the motor before you hit. I've left my boat in the water for a few weeks (mooring) with nothing but a specific bottom wax with no problems, I did use the boat 5 times a weeks during that time and I'm sure that the constant high speed runs are what prevented growth. There is no way I would go more than a month without paint, even a month is pushing it depending on how your water is.

eelman 04-25-2006 06:23 AM

3 weeks is about all I am leaving it in, and I do plan on fishing every afternoon....

Rip Runner 04-25-2006 07:01 AM

You'll be completely fine leaving it in for 3 weeks especially if it's being used. You may develop a yellow scum line, if it doesn't come off easily with a brush, hit it with on-off and it will come clean immediately.
