so... fishing tins...

Ill admit I have not really used them in the past. I used a butterfish last year with minimal results, but I broke down and ordered a couple black knights yesterday.

My question is this - Do you generally tie directly to them? Or add a ring to the end/use a swivel? or is it just user preference? Last year I put a ring on it, and was wondering if that might of been part of the problem....

suggestions welcome.

I would tie direct or use a snap.Either way I'd use a floro leader about 20-24" with a swivel attatched to the primary line.

On point jude's butterfish, i attach a big split ring and then tie direct or use a snap.. Ive found that i dont like tieing direct to tins, as it impeeds the action of the tin. The ring allows the tin to slide around.. of course if you use a snap, the snap will slide around too... but i use breakaway clips and breakaway clips dont jive with some tins.

If they don't have a ring to attach to, I add a split ring if I am going to tie direct otherwise I use a snap. You need to use a swivel because of the line twist many metals cause.
