G Loomis Schoolie Rod
 

This "freshwater" spinning rod (SJR941S) is advertised as a light-duty saltwater rod for stripers. It is a single piece 7'10" rod, with line rating of 10-17 #s and lure weight 1/4 -1 oz., $160.
Trouble is, no one has one locally that I can check out. Does any one have any experience with this rod? I'd hate to order one, sight unseen, but it sounds like what I've been looking for.

You want to spend $160 on a schoolie rod?????

With a line weight rating of 10-17 #s, I'm expecting to handle upwards of 12# fish that tend to mix in with "schoolies".
At 7'10", I'm hoping to also gain on casting distance.

My Loomis spring shipment is coming in this week, there may a few in there to check out. I might even have one in the shop now, I'll have to check though. If don't I'm more then happy to order one which you'd be under no obligation to buy; it's a rod I sell often so if it isn't what you're looking for it's not an issue.

Pretty much all the SJR series have serious lifting power as they are built to yank largemouths out of the bushes. Spin Jig Rod is what SJR stands for.

I have several of them personally from that line up. You'll probably find yourself using it for a lot more then schoolies. Depending on your definition of "schoolie" it may be too much rod. Albies, bones, even skippies and smaller bft should be fine on that stick. You'll be able to handle a 12# bass with ease. I have the SJR844S IMX and I've taken bft up to forty pounds on it in short order. It has the same exact ratings as the SJR941S you are looking at. Almost all the SJR's are very versatile sticks due to the taper. Soft tip which fades to fish lifting power...

Saltwater Edge is the place to for Gloomis. I have 3 new GL rods from SE. They know the GL product as well as other mfg's. They will point you in the right direction.

St Croix makes a good schoolie rod too. tidemaster :humpty:

I checked out St. Croix. Too much handle and not enough rod for what I was looking for. The G Loomis looks just right!!
