Guaranteed 50lber?

If you knew of a spot that would definitely give up a 50lb striper in the next 10 years, would you fish that one & only spot every night, and foresake all others? :spin:

Yup, If I could get a 50 guarnteed? that MUST be one Hell of a spot.

In The Surf 05-11-2006 02:16 PM

No, because I know of and fish several places that will do that. I will not marry any one place when it comes to fishing. I know those fish are there at one point or another but there's no guarentee they'll be there when I am. But I do focus on spots that produce large.

JFigliuolo 05-11-2006 02:23 PM

Yeah, after rethinking this... I'd get too bored at the same spot for 10 years. You can bet your @$$ I'd be there when the time was right though.

If I could afford to get there every night?
Yes.

ITS, whats the difference? Your still fishing for large, just hedging which spot has the best chance of giving one up

Hypotheticly saying, fishing this spot will give up a 50 sooner or later, maybe tomorrow, maybe 10 yrs from now. Would you fish it every night?

And just because its the new moon in June doesnt mean the 50+ will be there, what if you miss it on one of the other 30 nights a month?

PS>The hypothetical spot holds other bass as well

Well, I guess if this is a fantasy land where I could fish it everynight, and it holds allot of big fish, and it wasn't in downtown Bridgeport, etc,

Sure, why not? If I was consisitantly catching large, why not? Also It needs to be a gaurentee I'll catch a 50, not just that ones swimming around (I'm sure that's happened to me already).

Now would I trade years of skunks for 1 50? No way.

This brings up another issue. If it's guaranteed, what's the point of fishing for it? The reason a big fish is desired is because it is rare. Once it's guaranteed it is no longer desireable for me.
If I wanted guaranteed fish I'd go to the fish market.

Well part of it has to do with one of your previous threads "those who get 30 lb plus fish yearly" or to that effect. Having an idea where these fish are at a particular time and based on when I'm fishing what are the conditions and factors (many of them covered in that thread)that will make one spot more favorable than another.

Well its not necessarily guaranteed, you just need to know when and how to fish the spot. :D

Krispy 05-11-2006 03:04 PM

Hmmm..
How about, a spot that is guaranteed to hold 50lb fish at some point during the season. A specific 20' by 20' hole, that has given up LARGE consistantly every season over the past 20 years. All you have to do is be there when she is.
How hard would you fish in a year?

RIJIMMY 05-11-2006 03:10 PM

Krispy, Im no sharpie, but I know of a few spots like that. I fish them hard and spend a lot of time there, but its all matter of timing.

striprman 05-11-2006 03:11 PM

My favorite spots didn't get to be my favorite spots by producing small fish.

Rockport24 05-11-2006 03:22 PM

If any spot was garunteed to hold one 50 a season, I would fish it pretty damn hard.
It would have to hold a bunch of other bass though, or I would decrease my efforts drastically if I kept getting skunked.

I fish very hard regardless and I feel many at this site do. You have to fish real hard and put in considerable time to really learn spots and what makes them produce. Keeping a log (something I'm not very good at) is a great way to document and refer back to info learned. Also helps to know several spots intimately like this, it'd really suck when you got to your 20' x 20' honey hole and someone beat you to it and you didn't have a plan B. Fortunately we're in a great area with many good spots in close proximity to each other. But I still like being a plan A guy.

Krispy 05-11-2006 03:40 PM

I dont know DZ, Im not gonna pick a likely day and hope the 50 is a gonna be there. Ill just fish it hard on anything but the worst conditions.

Nebe 05-11-2006 04:26 PM

not me... i like to target big fish, but 50 is only a #...if i catch a 49 will i be pissed?? not really. I would rather have a schmorgasborg of 30's all season long in different places, than fishing one all season long with little to show for it. Just my opinion

This is how I feel to, there are plenty of spots that will give up 50's I like to move around

Dennis, I'm pretty sure the Krispy was just stating FU is one of his Krispy ism's.He's a fart smeller, er i mean a smart feller.

I know of a spot that has given up 2-50 lb fish an my friends 60 lber.In the last three yrs. It's not a easy place to fish.more than a few things have to go right to land one of that size.Live bait is king there.i just can't do it like i used to.fishing a few hrs there is like torture I end up staying all night.tough working the next day.If someone calls me soft I will punch em.Seriously though i just don't like to fish that way anymore.so i guess i prefer to catch smaller fish.I do fish a spot in close proximty to that spot and i have landed some good fish there but the odds are not the same.I also have a few other techniques an times in my logs that have been torturing me for the past few yrs.
I had a conversation with some expert canal men I believe that from the 3rd or 4th week of may till mid oct there is a fifty to be caught in the canal. It's not quite 20 x 20 but i believe..

I'd get bored before Mrs. 50 showed I bet.

Slingah 05-11-2006 05:29 PM

Id get bored too....how I feel lately is that I dont care if I get a fifty....Id rather a bunch of mediums....

Christian 05-11-2006 05:40 PM

50 is just a number.
im not looking for a number, just the most and biggest fish i can get. i wouldnt do that...

Christian 05-11-2006 05:42 PM

holycrap nebe...just read what you said..i like you.

tlapinski 05-11-2006 05:52 PM

K, we fish spots that fit your description. I know personally of 50#+ from most of them. My guess would be the bearded man falls on one around mid September this fall. a fifty on his fifty... :spin:

shadow 05-11-2006 07:17 PM

I fish at a spot that has given up a few 50's in it's time and every year gives up large fish.I don't fish it only hoping I'll get a 50,but because it fishes good.It is consistent, theres no crowds, and it is a challenging spot to fish, as a matter of a fact I don't think I would even be able to land a fish that big in this bone yard.I do fish there alot but I would never put all my eggs in one basket.
