Boat Shoes...lets crack this code
OK, we have explored the world of bottom paint removal methods to a level that I think could only be described as a definitive work.
Lets talk boat shoes. Now for the last several decades I have always worns some brand of Sperry Topsider in the summer and once the weather kicks in I wear a fishing boot with a non-skid sole. The foul weather boots are fine and do the job when the weather is snotty. In fair weather I like the moc's. My all time favorite was the Kudu moc by sperry but they don't make it any more:devil: It had real thick oiled leather tops and super thick soles that stood up to serious abuse. My wife hated them because they smelled. (the oil) For the last 10 years or so I go thru 2 pair of moc's they call the "sailfish" style. I don't like them as much as the Kudu's but they are OK. I have to tell you as I have aged my feet are starting to hurt now with these mocs. There is not enough padding or cushion in them for my sore bones. I was thinking of getting the sneaker model that they make with rebock but it is white leather and I know they will look like crap after I step on the first fish. But they look super comfortable. What do you guys wear? (or like) |
99% of the time I wear sneakers with white soles, I am not comfortable in Sperry topsiders since an injury to my foot. When the weather is snotty and cold I wear my good ole Herman Survivors.
|
12"white rubba boots with cushion inserts, all I use.
|
I wear regular sneakers with white soles, I find the topsides stink with then get wet.
|
Shoes? I'm lucky I wear underwear.

U/M has the answer>>>>>>>>>

Buy yourself a pair of crocs. Leave on the boat. Definately leave them on the boat. Your wife will like them though. I bought my girlfriend a pair for Christmas and she wore them just about every day. She has more shoes than I have fishing reels...

Sperry Figawi's
Dubarry Ultimas :hihi: |
Bass Shoes makes some nice ones,I got 4 seasons on a pair.
|
Crocs are by far the best.......light weight, great gip and they don't stink

Boaters world had these on special for 30 or 40 bucks... Great shoes but the do get... odoriforous if not washed/dried occasionally.... |
When the weather is warm, I like crocs too. Their soft sole makes it easy on the joints.
The downside is that they are fugly, and I was never into clogs on men. Even the company doesn't acknowledge that they are clogs. They call them sandals. OTOH, last year I saw a bunch of college studs wearing them, surrounded by pretty young college girls. So I guess the non-manly look is all in my head. |
One of the guys who rides in the "back of the bus" on one of the 70's I sail on wears crocs.
We make fun of him constantly for it. :rotf2: |
Are Crocs those colorful holey rubba clogs? If so I can't be seen in those, they look more like a topic of conversation then a shoe. Also I would think they would slip on a wet deck. They probably would not smell though.
Likwid, are these the ones...which model? the fishermen? They look decent I may give them a try. http://www.sperrytopsider.com/shoppi...FU6FCwod-xksAw |
The only nice part about the fisherman is they don't show the blood stains as badly. :tooth:
The figawi low's are a little more sticky on the deck than the fisherman's IMO And if you feel like wrecking your wallet: http://www.hmws.co.uk/product_images...%20Ultima2.jpg (wear em racing and fishing offshore) |
I have been wearing a pair of Sebago mocs for a while now. I have a wiiiide foot and can get them wide. They fit me great, I like the feel.
|
Samdman, check these out
I have not purchased a pair yet but read an article about the owner and his products. Good reviews.
http://www.mionfootwear.com/prod_det...ail_men4.shtml Good Luck Funky looking but probably very comfortable. They form to your feet. |
I just bought a new pair of sperry billfish. i got them at symms for $25.
They replaced an old pair of sperrys, something like the 3-eyes. I had those for at least 7 years. GOD DID THEY STINK. I wear rubber guy cotton boots when it is sloppy out. I have figawi lows for sailing. _Z_ |
Extratuff rubber boots when its cold and nothing in the summer or some reef sandles. Never worried about white soles since I scrub the boat down all the time anyway.

ohhhhhhhhhh riiiiiiiiiiiiight

|
Figawi's by Sperry the last few years do it and our odor free. The orange and grey sneaker. Those Reebok pumps got me thinking though where can i get a pair?
|
Nike running shoes. Thick sole, comfortable and they let me stand for the longest time without my feet starting to hurt.
What I'd like to do is get some 1/2" or 3/4" rubber matting for the helm and a couple of other strategic locations on the boat. Coming from manufacturing I know how much of a difference it can make on a hard floor. Anyone use anything like this? |
White sole sneakers....crocs scream alternative life style!
