Kernwood Bridge, North Shore

Went out this AM behind Kernwood Bridge. Rays Fly, BRIGHT orange GP and a small greeninsh GP (Salmon egg hook). Was delighted to catch fish on all three flies. Once, all at the same time. Casting to the upcurrent and letting the fly swing back to me and past me using a floating line. Love this trout fisihng for stripers!

Then switched to the light spin gear with a melon grub and a small rays fly teaser. Did well again, but the fish took the grub in a different location than the flies. A bit further down current. The current wasn't running strong enough to get a very long drift and most of the fish were caught at the end of the drift when I'd begin a very slow retrieve.

Then, to see what would happen, I put on a small bone white Zara Spook. Got fish on this as well, but the takes shifted even further down stream. Interesting to note that the fish on the spook were all about 8" smaller that on the fly and grub.

Sounds like the fish established a "pecking order".:bl:

The thought crossed my mind... The bigger fish were on the jig.
1/4 ounce head. Probably should have been using 1/8 or even 1/32 for a better drift.

Did you use any kind of split shot to keep the fly a little down in the water column? If so, how far away from the fly do you put the weight? I'm liking this trout fishing for stripers method, i may give it a shot!

No, But I probably should have. The tiny jig with the spin gear was getting more hits, even though I had it set wrong. I'll usually put a tiny split shot on between the droppers.
