Spook Question
1 Attachment(s)
HI;
The attached picture has 2 spook type plugs. the Herring color (top) is 7" by 1 1/8" and has 4/0 hooks. the green one is 6 1/2" by 1 1/18" and has 3/0 hooks. Both are about 3 oz and have lead in the tail. Neither one has a belly weight. The green one works just fine but the Herring (top) will lay on its side when being worked. I'm sure putting some weight in the belly will get it ride correctly. Just wondering if the difference in body styles would cause the Herring one to ride differently. The other answer is to just build Green ones. ( it must be the color ). Any suggestions are appreciated. By the way. I center drill for the wire thru on the lathe so I believe the center hole is in fact centered. Thanks Surfrod |
Obviously not Hydro Orientated....:rolleyes:

dumb question, but is the tailweight hole true? if it is off it could cause the plug to ride on it's side.

If the plug floats correctly at rest, then your problem is probably the nose loop. Try bending it to the side that goes down (or turn it horizontal). An out of round body (caused by play in your drive center, or vibration from dull tools) might screw you up as well. Finally, as Tagger mentions, the growth ring orientation has some unpredictable effects on how the plug wants to float at rest. Search for his thread on Hydro-orientation and you can learn more.
By the way, nice plugs and thanks for showing them. Post some more. |
Hydro orientation is an eye opener. :hihi:

Thanks for the replys.
I did not think of the hole for the tail weight being true center. Also bending the wire. I do that for the swimmers. Anyway, thanks again. \ |
