Why is it?
Why is it when the surf is right and the run is on, the Surfers show up.
Gettin ready for fist to cuffs soon!!!!!!!!!!:realmad: |
One spot that I love to fish is great on the half-tide down. I great rip forms up next to a hole. However the surfers love the same thing. More than once I've been there rod in hand (sometimes with a bait stick in the surf too), and they'll surf right where I'm casting and think nothing of it. My fishing doesn't disrupt their surfing, but regrettably it doesn't work the other way around. :nailem:

Unfortunately it's a no win situation. We both have the same right to use the water. What I don't get is what is so appealing about surfing in the northeast. Bra, find something better to do with your time. The waves are so small.

Fish at night :D
Havent had a surfer problem in a while.... |
They never bother me and the RI surfers favor spots I fish frequently . Waves = good surfcasting. I am usually packing it in when they show up at daylight. I respect them for their dedication. People think I am nuts for what I do for a fish but at least I am not swimming in the icy cold water. i see them out there in April all the way through December

I hate surfers...they are like the wind.....they blow!:jester:

 surfers are never a problem when you're on a boat!!!

What RIRockhound said. Why are you fishing in the daylight? Stripers are nocturnal creatures....like all good Striper fishermen...:walk:

Spring can be the exception to this... |

i wouldnt exactly say the surf in NE is always small and weak... the summer sucks with kooks, but theres no doubt it gets good, and when it does, i drop the rod for a board.

Enjoy lots of things I call "fishing". Watching a group of surfers can be one of them at times.
Along with watching the ships come in. Interestingly, there are several surfers(?) I see from time to time at one of the local breachways. Bag buckled around the waist, rod in hand with a board. They'll walk up to the rocks on one side, literally jump in with the board and all from 5-10 ft up, paddle across to fish the other side if there's fish. If not, they'll do the surfin safari thing. Low buck, simple, and productive. |

Lay off us hybrids (surfers and fishemen).
As a fisher and a surfer i see both sides of this. As a surfer we follow the break. As a fisher we follow the fish. Surfers do have the same right of way to the beach as the fishermen. With that being said the surfers have to respect the fishermen and the fishermen have to respect the surfers. I like the rule of whoever was there first, but if the break cahnges to wehre the fishermen are, I usually just head in. Others may not be as respectful. As for when I'm fishing, i think like a surfer. I try and find a spot where there is no good break. I also try and stay in the same spot and hold my ground, then if someone does hit my line I can say I've been there. THe other side of this is you can fish without surf, but you cant surf without surf, so i'd say find another spot if its overrun with surfers. |
I have nothing against them. I also enjoy watching them try.
:zup: But this time of year when I have already been catching and then they show up and decide to hang in front of me and disperse the fish Pi$%es me off. |
