Hey fly nuts.

TO all those who pursue stripers on fly gear. If you get a chance come up to Maine and give our estuaries a try. While Maine doesn't compare to the Cape in numbers of fish nor varieties of fish we do have unlimited places to fish. Maine stripers appear in mid-late May and stay untill October. We have hundreds of small estuaries along our 3500 mile coast. All of these will hold stripers but the heaviest runs occur south of Rockland. The big deal though is how easy it is to find a place to fish. All Maine waters are by law open to the public. You can always find a place to fish and most times you'll be alone or have very little company. You don't need a boat for most estuaries here but a small boat can be a help in the bigger rivers. The wading flyfisher has literally thousands of miles of fishing opportunities, most seldomely fished. I fish mostly from Casco Bay to the Mousam river in Kennebunk. I generally catch and release 500-1000 stripers aseason (depends on how much time I have). While that doesn't sound like much to a veteran striper hound, remember I catch all those fish on a fly rod ( I do some bait and plug fishing also but keep those records seperate from those caught on flies). So come on up to the pine tree state and find yourself good striperin' and lots of open, easily accessable water. Life is good!

Mal p.s. If you need some help on the where and when drop me a line and I'll do my best to help you.:)
