Offshore Guys
Ran to the Tails yesterday. Left the dock around 6:30 lines in at 9. First fish in the boat at 9:05. 49" around 75 pounds. Trolled till 1 with a total of 12 fish boated with another 6 knockdowns. Water temp went from 59 to 69 in tails with a decent amount of life. All Bluefin no talk of Yellows on the radio either. :skulz:

Congrats and nice report. Running bars is always productive out there.

Sounds like a fun trip, but an awful long way to go for one fish?
|
It is a decent ride for one fish but it was not stop action all day and there are some bigger fish mixed in. I have to say that global warming sucks but cachting decent school tuna in May KICKS ASS. Thursday it goes to two fish over 47".:zup:
|
I thought it was three fish over 47 inches starting on June 1st?
|
That was the original proposal, but they officially announced a couple of days ago that it will be 2 over 47" for the season. There will also be a limited period (mid aug-mid sept for us up here) for an additional small fish 27"-47". But I think this is a really limited set-aside, and may not last the whole time.
General is 3 fish per day (over73). |
Jay,
Yep, I just went and looked it up ont he NMFS site and you're right, they changed it again! |
before it was just a proposal now it is set I think.
I hope that 1 fish 27" to 47" in the northern area falls durring the time they show up close to RI... |
nice job.
|
I heard that a load of boats really went to town on the bluefins last weekend at the fish tails. 20-30 fish per boat with one keeper per boat!
|
I'm itchin to get the tuna rigs in. I may make the run north when the first giants come in to cashes in a couple of weeks.
|
Mike,
A buddy boat of ours got 17 Sunday night on the chunk with a couple more monday morning on the troll for a total of 26. Most of the fish at night were taken on jigs. Next trip will spend more time down there this was a shakedown trip and couldn't be happier with our result for four hours of trolling. :skulz: |
Devils great report. Hell of a way to start your season off in May. I'll be towing my boat up in July hopefully the fish will move a little closer to shore by then...
