Question: Sea Tow vs. Travelers Insurance coverage allowance

Cash a little tighter this year, so looking for ways to save a buck here or there.
My Insurance policy (travelers) has a towing/disablement allowance of $400. per incident.
Do you guys think that would be enough, based on past experiences to take care of an "average tow" from most Boston harbor spots back to port in the Fore River ???

Seatow charges something like 100-300 an hour.

Do the math.

RIROCKHOUND 06-01-2006 08:24 AM

Pay the 119/yr and dont worry about the rest...

likwid 06-01-2006 08:38 AM

btw... that 100-300/hr is for NON-MEMBERS.

make sure to see what their tow limits are.

they won't tow you halfway around the world for that 119/yr ;)

Very true, but for our R/V within 5miles of the bay :D

I broke down by the Hyatt near Logan Airport last summer and Boat US wanted $550 to take me to Hewitts Cove. It's much more expensive than you would think. This year I bought the unlimited coverage.

get the seatow.
you get 10% off most fuel docks too.and i think it works on any boat your on,,, not just yours.

$400.00 won't be enough. I was towed from Barnstable to Sandwich and the bill was 550.00.
I am glad I had Boat US:kewl:

200 per hour....or 120 all year

Thanks for the input, looks like I'll sign up again.
Didn't realize their hourly rate was that high.
Also forgot about the fuel discounts. :humpty:

I got towed this year from West Chop back to Falmouth Harbor and the Bill was $576. Glad I had unlimited towing from BoatUS, they had to send a boat from Osterville for the tow.

The bad news was that was the end of the power head on my 2004 Yamaha HPDI.

TowUS towed me once when I was not a member. About 3 miles up the Piscataqua River back to launch dock. Bill about $239.00. Now I have unlimited which coveres me 25 miles out, north and south of Portsmouth Harbor. Hope I never have to use it.

check on their deductible for all claims.

Plus we "members " get a discount on seatow. I renew every year.

I'm taking Next week vacation .....see you out there !!! Mamas coming !!!
