Tuna/Shark charter
My friend and I are looking to book a tuna/shark combo charter this summer and were looking for a little advice. When is the best time to go to target both shark and tuna? (we were thinking july, before oaks bluff tournoment). Can anyone recommend a boat that can offer a tuna and shark combo trip, maybe troll for tuna on the way to the sharking grounds? What locations are best to leave from? I am from south shore MA but wouldn't mind driving for better results. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

go south that early :ss:
look up makomike on here from RI. |
I do combo trips, but it's usually sharking in the morning and then trolling for tuna on the way back. Best time would be sometime in July or August, simply becasue the tunas are more likely to be around then. We can catch sharks right now and they will be around until the fall. Where we fish will be determined by the water temperature breaks, could be as far east as the dump or as far west as the Ranger wreck. Check out my website at Http://www.Makomania.net

shark fishing
Try Capt. Tom King out of Scituate. Not many know more about sharks than he. His boat is the Kaama, out of Mill Wharf Marina.
781-545-6287, www.newenglandsharks.com. I have fished with him for Cod a couple of times, he knows his stuff, and he has an excellent reputation. good luck. |
MM great work on the website. Good luck with it, beautiful picture of the boat too.

Thank you. But I have our very own John R. working on a new and improved version which should be ready soon. I've seen some pages and they look even better!

MakoMike, took a look at your website, why is your chair mounted where it is?
|
Beacuse from that positon you can use a stand-up rod out of the fighting chair. A standup rod in the fighting chair is one way to put a serious whooping on a big fish. Plus it means that we can fish all stand-up gear and anglers still have the options of using the chair if they start to get tired. Plus it frees up a lot of cockpit space. I wouldn't put the chair anywhere else, unless we were consistantly fishing for big bill fish.

Tom King is a great guy for shark charters.
but i bet he won't even start shark charters till august. go south, it's a different world south of the cape. |
Very nice Mike. Hadn't seen your rig before.

Thanks for all your input guys, appreciate it. Looks like it's best to head south. Makomike, I will be in contact with you in the near future.

Good deal, I'll be here! :)

Uh, try about a mile of South beach. You might catch a monster mako!
