Scored on a Surf Hog

Terrible fishing Saturday night, wind was nuts, a lot of unfishable areas. I headed to an outflow that had a ripping current. I did not plan to fish there so I did not have many jigs. I had glued one of Nebe's black surf hog eels to a 3 oz lead head and let her rip into the current. Second cast, wham, landed a keeper. The night was looking promising, then I lost the rig on the next few casts. If I was armed with more jigs and hogs, I think I would have done much better. I had nothing else on me that could get deep enough.......:crying:

The operative question:

Was it a steenky or not?

PS: The Avet box still reeks.

My favorite part of the Surf Hog Eel is the way it can carry a LOT of lead in it's belly.

Makes for a great casting piece of plastic that still sinks slowly.

It was stinky, marinated in bunker oil for a week or so.......

Yea, they plane right back to the surface if you want even weighted 2-3-1 with the big sluggo weights.

I have yet to catch a fish on any plastic eel imitation thingies. I have not tried "stinky" yet.

I use one for the first time up on the Cape, white 10" no added weight, fished it like a jerk bait, cast well, had one good take and drop the fish, felt good thou. Looked great in the water, big fish bait for sure. Chris

good going Jim :kewl:

I have come to the conclusion that there is no wrong way to rig them... lead in the belly, a lead head, lead shoved in the head.... it all works :D
