Whole Foods = Holes in head
I just read this in the globe, these people are nuts, it's ok to get the meat and poultry from the humane slaughterhouses, but fresh lobster is unethical.
"Ultimately, Whole Foods management decided to immediately stop selling live lobsters and soft-shell crabs, saying they could not ensure the creatures are treated with respect and compassion. "We place as much emphasis on the importance of humane treatment and quality of life for all animals as we do on the expectations for quality and flavor," John Mackey, Whole Foods' co-founder and chief executive, said in a statement." :whackin: |
Weirdos. Don't want to treat lobsters inhumanely now do we. Geez, they can rip their own claws off, I don't think they feel too much pain.
I heard a guy on the radio today, said that if you get hired there 30 days later your co-workers vote on whether you get to stay, like a reality tv show. |
Is there anyone on this site that's bought a lobster at WholeFoods anyway ??? :uhoh:
Regardless, be very thankful there are animal rights wackos out there, they actually have done a lot to improve farming conditions that have led to better quality products for all of us. -spence |
Geez, spence, is there a single loon-a-tic lefty screwed up idea that you can't say something good about? :rollem:

The point is, does anyone here really care if they sell lobsters or not? -spence |
I don't care if they go belly up tomorrow, but to say it's unethical to sell live lobster. Get a grip.
Think they use pesticide in that store? What about the insects, those poor little bugs. |

I wish I live next door to Spence. That way, I could plant a Bush and show him What I ReallyThink!!! |
I think the issue is, they don't want to have the ethical burden of live animals on their shoulders...these probably are the only two products sold in the store that are living...
...besides yogurt :p -spence |

Finally they found a succesfull "attractant" when they stumbled across frozen McDonald's Kelp Patties that had been stored next to McFish Patties where over the past 15 years the fish flavor osmosed to the Kelp Patties. Thus began the successful adaptation of FMfKBS, "Frozen McFish Kelp Burger Slurry". With millions invested to date and the tainted Kelp Burgers now in the Attractant Bags coupled to the LVCDs, they watched in awe on their CCUWTV system as the Lobsters entered the LVCDs, attracted to the attractants, and began to nibble on the FMfKBS (Frozen McFish Kelp Burger Slurry). This was when the overlooked flaw in the desgin became most apparent as the sideless traps, nee LVCDs, were overrun by the striped gladiators of the deep and the white chinned bottom dwellers which proceeded to suck up every tasty morsel of lobster in sight! The shock and awe happened when the striped onces fenced with the lobsters until the most opportune moment to extract the claws one by one from these noble crustaceans. Limb from Limb they shouted in horror for nights ending in cold sweat, fermenting the said reality that catching lobsters at their high standard was just not practical and just not to be... |

they still have frozen lobsters! just not the live ones@!

They do have a single seafood distributer which conforms to their standards... The issue is that they don't feel they can maintain those standards in their stores. It's less about killing lobsters, than it is the storage when alive. -spence |

Guys, Wholefoods probably stopped selling lobster because they couldn't jack the price up like they do on all of their other meats. Since they could not come up with a clever way of saying that their lobsters are massaged with Saki every morning etc..they simply dropped the item and came up with a clever way of saying that they cant make any $$ off of them... All lobsters are free-range, all lobsters are usually sold alive, so how can wholefoods make it any better and charge more?
If we see a major change in the way lobsters are collected, say if we begin farming them in large fish farms, then wholefoods will sell lobsters the way everyone else sells them now and charge double saying its the only environmentally friendly way to do it. have you guys learned anything from the Bush administration??? :usd: |
yeah re: lobster and bushmenstruation

The question I have is..
Do they sell veal at Whole Foods? |
Quote:
There are many producers of veal that are "considered" humane by the non-peta ecco crowd...We consumed 6 of said prime chops during last years Christmas dinner seared with a porcini sauce :) -spence |

So why are lobsters, that are transported alive less humanly treated than a baby cow kept inside a box? Dont get me wrong, I love veal, I just think it is rather hypocritical of Whole Foods.... and just silly... |
Quote:
As far as the cow is concerned, this is their natural environment. Not so for the lobster, free for years to live and reproduce only to be yanked (tricked really) to live out their sentence in an artificial holding tank. Of course to see the logic you have to get past the idea that a lobster is about as smart as a cricket, and feel that as human you need to extend a little extra courtesy to those mother nature created. -spence |
This can't be a serious conversation??? Are you really trying to break down the difference between a lobster pool and a veal holding area on whether or not these creatures were "tricked" into being there? :rotf3:

Whole foods>>>>>prices
I can't be sure because I didn't open the hot dog role bag, but my wife seemed to think that there was only five rolls in the bag, which means as oppsed to going up on the price in an up front manner they are just selling you five rolls for the price of six. We buy most of our food there, no lobsta's, and less and less red meat.

Spence did you finally get those new lights for the office that makes it seem like daylight in the office?

Some of the local grocers are really going nutz on prices. Clements in Portsmouth sells freaking shallots for a buck EACH! If I'm cooking for a dinner party sometimes I have to hit three stores to get exactly what I'm after...drives me nutz. -spence |
