Do you ever have a problem with the box over the engine being in the way? The I/Os look cumbersome to me.....

Sluggoslinger 06-27-2006 07:55 AM

My Mako, currently on its mooring in chatham

quick decision 06-27-2006 08:22 AM

Nice mako, how do you like the Honda?

There is two feet in width beteween the engine box and the gunnal. I have not had any problems.

Sluggoslinger 06-27-2006 08:31 AM

Its a love hate... I got a 150 for it which is grossly underpowered but I got it for an incredible deal... My top end is only 25kts. There are times where I hate to be on it b/c it is so slow but the motor runs like a top. I had no idea it would be so slow though so I have to accept it for what it is, a dog. It is also very loud but I think that is due to the fact that the motor is working so hard to push the boat.

I could not stress more how important it is to go big with power. If that was a 225, i'd be in heven.

MakoMike 06-27-2006 09:52 AM

Best picture I have of my boat is on the website. Too big to post here.

quick decision 06-27-2006 10:29 AM

How heavy is your mako? Does the motor have the proper prop on it?

mako, that is one bad ass machine.

Sluggoslinger 06-27-2006 10:35 AM

The boat weighs 4,288 with a half tank and an extra 750 fit into the equation for water in the foam and gear. The problem with this boat is has a 19 degree deadrise super deep V. It cuts through chop like a tank but it isn't the most streamline. The first prop I had on it was a honda 3-blade 13" pitch 14.25" dia. I had a custom 4-blade 14" pitch 15.5" dia made for it and it drastically reduced slip. I tack out at 5800 now doing 25kts when the prop is turning at 31.16 so I calculated a 18% slippage. Not much else I can do but live with it.

I might have the motor lowered one notch next year to see what that does.

Mine. Shenanigans. Finally got the steering squared away over the weekend.Hope to get out this week for the first time this year in this boat. Half the time I hate boats and the other half I love em. Paul

This boat is my favorite. I call it Uncle Remus. I have had for almost 20 years. It is a pleasure to use. The last few years it has got the majority of my time. Can use it 10 times for the cost of once for other boat. I am so glad I did not sell it. Paul

Sluggoslinger 06-27-2006 10:47 AM

Hey Prof,

How do you like the honda? What size? What kind of performance are you getting. I'm still trying to compare boats and see why i'm so slow...

yeah, that should be at least a 250

ProfessorM 06-27-2006 11:57 AM

The Honda's great. It is a 90. No complaints so far, fingers crossed. The thing sip's gas. It is not the fastest boat in the water but fast enough for me, l'll take the mpg over speed. I do a lot of trolling and it is perfect for that. P.

Sluggoslinger, my 225dc is a theft recovery and i'm trying to find or have some windshields made for it. Is there any way I could take some measurements from yours?? FYI i've got a 200hp and do about 36 kts.

Here is the old girl, just repowered this past may with a brand new 2006 OptiMax and can I say that the new engine is awesome!

Here is me and my girl this past spring, my dad was able to get the shot and I like it for many reasons, one is that it is impossible to get a shot of yourself in a boat without another boat so just to get the shot is good enough. He was on another boat BTW. I like that the sky is anything but clear and blue as anyone can go out on a nice day but the contrast with an late afternoon/early evening overcast/cloudy sky is so much nicer, for a fisherman at least. The water is not calm, we were in a rip and I love how the boat is heeled over and not just sitting flat, and lastly, it is a candid, we had no idea we had paparazzi taking shots of us. Good stuff, enjoy and give me a holler or show me the secret S-B hand signal if you ever see me out there.

A pic from last year right after I picked her up. A day with the family at the Plymouth flats at low tide (of course I took a couple rods just in case).

Other pic is from Memorial Day Weekend this year, seas were FAC, so took the family into Boston. My two boys enjoying the new bow pads I installed over the winter.

Thanks Ronnie. My dad runs charters with her out of Sandwich - I am merely slave labor.

Probably run into you up on the bank this year once these tuna settle in a bit.
