GPSMAP 76 (GARMIN) question

My Brother just got a new boat and it came with this unit. Has anyone tried to load a Bluchart map on this? Is it any good? It only has 8 MB of mem and I don't know if you can put much of a chart on there. Any comments would be helpful

Thanks in advance.

It's a good handheld unit. It'll show all the detail that other BlueChart capable devices show. Just a smaller coverage area loaded at one time.

I have the 76CS with Bluechart loaded on it. Dont remember how much memory it has but I have all the Mass. Coast plus subcharts I need on it, no prob. Small screen I guess but it works for me.

Thanks for that info, I didn't think 8 megs was enought to load even one local chart, glad to hear it works.

You guys bought the bluechart CD and uploaded the selected chart to your GPS unit via a serial cable, right?

the bluecharts i believe are vector charts
ie: they can hold tons of data in a very small file.

Yes. That's how that unit works.
