I thought skunks did not come out in the day...I have one that has been digging for bugs in my backyard...saw him again today....I banged on a can and he waddled off.....
what keeps them away?? is it fox urine??
thanks in advance

Thought this post was gonna be about my fishing experience this weekend...:bc: :splat:

Raven 07-04-2006 07:35 PM

follow him!!

the hole is within a hundred feet of your house....i guarentee it !
they (skunks) .......dont travel to far from their burrow...

as soon as you can find that hole
and shove a running garden hose
into it and make it (no longer desirable) a bad hole...

he'll/she'll........... be moving out of your neighborhood.

Have some kind of critter under my shed...At leasts one..Woodchuck maybe..Looks like they have reproduced...Eat everything in sight...Have a heart trap ..I DONT!!!

Slingah 07-04-2006 08:25 PM

my daughter just came in and said there was a skunk in the front bushes and the other night she saw 4 in the yard!!!! I'm gonna come home from fishing late nite and get sprayed!! I have to take care of this before things get smelly

SKD maybe you have chipmunks...I had/have a family living in my garage....Do chipmunks cause any damage??

Squid kids Dad 07-04-2006 08:52 PM

Nope on the chipmunks..These are much bigger..As big as cats if not bigger

Dunno how fox urine would work. I know bobcat urine works on raccoons.

I've fished within 10 feet of skunks and have never been sprayed. I shine my light on them to let them know I'm there, and don't make any sudden moves towards them. They only spray as a defensive measure. Just act normally and don't alarm them, and they'll leave you alone.

CAL 07-04-2006 09:09 PM

Matt, I used to get them all the time, even in the day, a whole family of them.

You wanna borrow my pellet gun? :nailem:

for some reason I thought that fox urine was for skunks.....
I usually just make a noise or something and your right Mike they just move along.....but I just want em' gone

CAL : thanks for the offer...gonna try other methods first

its a small hole.... size of a grapefruit... or smaller..
remember skunks have big fluffy fur like a cat
and get them wet and they are real skinny

rule of thumb with critters is
if they can get their head thru the hole
they can get their body in there too

Slingah 07-05-2006 05:59 AM

gotcha Raven....thanks....I know just where it is:skulz: :skulz: :skulz:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
tiger piss is sold at the zoo...i think..
someones selling it...i know...

anyways, the reason for the post:
apply a grub killer chemical to your backyard
if you have a grub problem...a shovel full of dirt/lawn or two
turned over will reveal that...soon enough
remove that food source ...and they'll look elsewhere.
btw: skunks like rainy weather ...even in the daylight.

Aqua-man 07-05-2006 06:34 AM

The only thing that will eat a skunk is great horned owl. No sense of smell I guess. Mabye try one of those plastic owls. I've always trapped them in a hav-a-heart trap. No sudden movments and cover them with a blanket in transit.

People piddle works good, too. And it's an excellant excuse to wander around the yard with a beer.:gu: Just don't freak the neighbors when scenting.:hs: :laughs:

I'm going to try that Fred...hey what the heck..it's free and can't hurt:buds:

Raven 07-05-2006 01:32 PM

pee in his house: it works

i have kept the deer out my garden....
and theres fresh tracks daily all around it
but they won't venture within...

i make sure the posts get scented
and thats all it takes...
no fancy shmancy trickery...

it essentially establishes your territory
so by pissing down his hole
your making a claim stake.

when you find yourself facing the porcelan god
take a walk instead....

it's also a good place to loose some old rusty nails.:kewl:

Rabid?

Slingah,

We had skunk in our yard during the day a year ago, I called animal control, they came, killed it and found it to be rabid.
They said seeing them in the daytime, is a telltale to them being rabid.

Raven 07-05-2006 02:12 PM

yeah but...

when people hear that...
they condem all noctournal critters
seen in daytime

(Usually early morning and dusk hours)
label them rabid and steer their cars towards them
for a quick bump -bump under .... the tires...:hs:
so i don't believe in that statement.

one night, i heard a gunshot around midnight
in my (then) residential neighborhood...
and it was some yahoo shooting a freakin possum.

the cops said the man was within his rights,
even though no hunting is allowed in that town.
skunks "are protected" by law
so its better to discourage them from making
a burrow in "your" yard

of course if it rushes at you and snarls or acts
really aggressive then --> blast him

...i have used a garden hose
many times to deter them
and have petted
a wild skunk before.
i thought it was a kitty cat.
it was a pure white albino.

i have handed cookies to racoons
and peanuts to squirells...from
1 foot away...i have it on film.

Squid kids Dad 07-05-2006 03:29 PM

I'm gonna go buy a six pack for tonight..I'll be peeing in my back yard all night to see if it works...

Raven 07-05-2006 04:00 PM

if p is what you want

definately buy Corona extra...

makes ya pee like a race horse
and just as fast...
don't forget the limes...:gu:

We're gonna need a bigger keg....The DIY scenting worked for me. No more skunks or groundhogs. You know it's really something when you can offend a skunk to the point of moving out with your stinky pee! I also don't have foxes lurking anymore. Pee a perimeter!

Raven 07-05-2006 09:09 PM

maybe you should pee in an empty milk jug and load up
a master blaster sonic squirtgun and go gunning for him
and spray =>him first. kinda like the OK coral...

this yard
isnt big enough for the two of us....:wiggle: .....draw mutha.....x$#@^&
