Most attorneys who passed the bar exam are competent enough to do a simple will, and these days, Quicken and other software vendors sell do-it-yourself will kits.

The more complex your estate, and the higher its value, the more you need an attorney who specializes in estate planning.

What Mike P said is 100% correct. Just to add a bit more...I would also reccomend that you should each have a Durable Power of Attorney, as well as a Health Care Proxy drawn up as well. Some attorneys include these documents in the full price, others get you in there and try to tack them on as "extras."

Google wills, power of attorney and your living will. The doctors office will provide you with a copy of the living will - just fill in the blanks.
