Anyone fish in this wind?
Near the canal it is 25 to 30 mph SSW
Won`t be calming down till tomorrow afternoon....going to try a place at 4 am.... by then its should be around 15 to 18 mph SSW. |
 switch ends and sides. I also fish the ditch and cannot believe how the wind kicks up and really screws up a good cast.:gorez:
|
I actually prefer places near the canal....back bays and estuaries :smokin: Still friggen windy :eek5:
|

With the low pressure and big surf it felt like there ought to be fish around. But 20 gusting 30+ in your face makes it a little rough. Bird nests of epic proportions w convench. Weed with a spinner, even w a Hab's Night-n-Gale. Wound up just staring beyond the break at where the fish were undoubtedly laughing their a$$es off at me...

Later today / this evening winds are down to 5 to 7 mph :boots:
|
Cancelled my boat plans this morning. I was up so I headed down the Canal ~4am. Fished the Cape side at a few locations without a bump. Then tried a few on the mainland side, wind blowing hard from the S/SW.
3 fish in 4.5 hrs, biggest was 27". Lost numerous fish because I couldn't set the hook with this damn wind, too much bow in the line. Anyways, beats staying in. May try the canal again this evening......... |
at 4 am it was 20 knots WSW and yes fish were caught, but they had yellow eyes and no stripes :( but it was fun anyway. seals didn't show untill it was over thankfully. I hope the one that got a facefull of my trebles yesterday, chokes on it. Next time I will open the bail before the bass gets chomped so it will have a chance. I was able to outfish the seals with the blues yesterday because they are more streamlined and cut thru the water better to be able to winch them in, but not so easy with 20 lb bass :(
wind makes it a challenge for sure, increased chop=harder for fish to see the plug, more bow in the line, harder to set the hooks. |
I tried to fish in that wind last night, no luck for me. I want to head back out later, if anyone has any ideas, pm me. :smokin:
|
my alarm is set for 1:30 am
Cape Cod Bay near the canal  Plugs and sorta fresh pogie chunks |
Hoping the wind dies down a bit this evening...
Tis my last night out before the baby comes.... thinking of heading up to the Sandwich area. |
I fished Scusset Saturday night high tide. Wind at my back.Hammered the skates. WHAT A NIGHT!!!
|
Slip, you and your kid definitely didn't have any problems with the stripers the day before. I went 2 for 2 against the seals on Sat am. Too bad I lost my big fish of the weekend. Nice fishing with you two.
