So I went to the Canal
with MAC, Slipknot, and Mike P and got hooked on the ditch. My question is this : What rod should I get ( or blank to wrap) to throw 3-4-5 oz. jigs?
BTW, thanks for the great night, guys! |
You should get the one that Slip, Mac and I were using ;)
All Star 1209 or the Breakaway factory rod that's built on the blank. Throwing Timber has one for sale in the Classifieds. The Batson Rainshadow SU 1209 is a very close approximation if you can't find an All Star/Breakaway. Other blanks that will work---Lamiglas XRA 126 1MH, GSB 132 1M or 120 1M, or the old glass standy-by SB 121 3M. |
uh oh.... the boyz have wrecked another one!:bl2:

what Mike said

Thanks.

Where does one find a XRA 126 1MH
Is that rod slightly heavier (in action) than the new 1205 |

It's a totally different rod than the 1205. Very parabolic. The best way I can describe it is, it's a lighter, crisper-actioned 121 3M. Don't be misled by the 4-6 oz rating. I can cast 2 oz on it without much trouble at all. And it will do 6. |
I love Parobolic. But my honey rod has been getting dusty.I picked up a 1205 an couldn't really feel much differencne from my gsb120 1M.I would like to try a the arra wit the different number. i thought they stopped makin em.I absolutely love the xra 1322.Has that nice parabolic bend u mentioned. But cast's much better than the glass.Lami is the worst on lure ratings thats why they get so many rods back broken. If i casted 5 onces wit my gsb 10 fter for a week it would be in 2 pcs in 3 days.
|
nib, lami no longer lists the xra1261mh in their 2006 blank catalog. it may be discontinued or only special order/limited runs.
xra1205 is a little faster in action than the gsb1201m. they both have about the same power/lure range. the xra1322 is closer to action than the 1201m. almost all of the gsb-surf serries blanks are incorrectly labeled; typically too high on the line/lure/power range. |

well, as far as the 10 blank min- if you guys do it count me in for 1... Just 9 more to go :hee:
|
Sounds like i gotta get me one.The 1322 is just to long sometimes on some rocks It has so much leverage u almost get yanked off.the 120 1m is ok if i wanna go as low as redfins but when u trow bigger stuff all night it's a little under gunned.I have a 542 I use for that app.but i ain't gettin any stronger with age.an all nighter's seem to be touhger every year.
|
I was in cms a couple weeks ago and they had a 1261 finished and on the rack for sale....
|
I wanna wrap one spinning.or have one wrapped.Titanium guides.
|
I like the XRA 1205 for the canal.
|
I'm getting quite an education here, More than I saw coming. But then again, isn't that always the way. I wish I'd seen the other blanks in action, but we still have a coupla months and the Winter will be long. Again, thanks guys.
