Guitar Amp

I finally have some extra money, and i want to buy an amp for my guitar.. Any suggestions on a good amp that has a good sound, for under 80 dollars perhaps?

Katie, I'll PM ya, we can talk for hours on this....first question, What type fo music do you like? Who would you like to sound like?

Katie 07-26-2006 06:20 AM

For music, i listen to everything except rap, it doesnt appeal to me by the least.. but my main goal is either to learn One of Steve Vai's solos like 'For the love of God' or Pink Floyds Comfortably Numb - the end solo in that song is the one that made me want to play.

I listen to anything 70's rock from.. Peter Frampton all the way to 3 doors down today.

Katie, try calling Dave at Chepachet Music, he has a lot of used stuff coming and going through the shop all the time.

Thanks guys... yeah i am definitly rockin' out.. :p

i was actually looking on Amazon cause my mom swears by it, and i found a brand new Gibson amp, and in total with shipping and all, will come a few cents short of 60 bucks..

This is it..

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...134317?ie=UTF8

i'm gonna find out if my mom has the 60 in her account and i'll give her the 60 in cash.. fair trade?

Katie,

Why not just make a run to Daddys Junky Music on Faunce Corner and have someone there help you pick one out. Then that extra 10 bucks you'd spend on shipping from Amazon can be put toward getting something else you'll need. I'll look around, I might have my first amp still and if I do you can have it. :kewl:

Yeah, thats hwere i bought my guitar from, awsome place, could spend hours in there.. Wow, cool.. thanks Dave! :D

Canalman 07-26-2006 04:32 PM

No prob... its about the same size as the one you showed but it's a marshall... a good name but I don't think you'll find an 80$ amp that will make you sound like Vai.... but you gotta start somewhere right?

NIB 07-26-2006 11:06 PM

Marshal makes that little shoebox sized amp for under a hundy.
Makes noise.

RIJIMMY 07-27-2006 07:35 AM

I wouldnt do it, buy a used amp, you'll get much more for the $. Music equipment is like exercise equipment, people buy it with big aspirations and then they realize its a lot of work and quit. Go Peavey, they're reliable, powerful and economical. You can get a 65 watt used amp for under $80. May look a little beat up, but for guitarists, beat up = cool.If you want to play in a band with that Gibson amp, NO ONE will hear you. There are some reliable brands other than Peavey shop around, talk to music stores.

RImike 07-27-2006 08:19 AM

Ill second RIJimmy on the peavey. They are cheap and reliable, and easy to find as well. Daddy's or Guitar center will have used ones that will suit you. A solid state fender like a stage 112 could be found cheap as well, and they sound good too. I had one that I bought 7 yrs ago for 50 bucks, abused it gigging for a while and it finally gave out 3 months ago. Now I have a marshall and wouldnt even think of getting anything other than a marshall....thats my 2 cents and 2nd post eva!!!

Katie 07-27-2006 04:14 PM

so peavey or marshall.. gotcha..yeah once i do know how to learn, i'll be playing with a bunch of friends, they all know how to play from - piano, drums, sax, bass... it all varies..
