A Little Doe!

I was turning some plugs in my shop this am and happened to take a break to let the fan in my back window cool me off for a minute (my back window faces the woods). Well....I notice 2 deer (at least) that I could see about 25 yards past the tree line. So I quietly go inside, get my digi-camera and sneak over to the tree line to see if I can get a good look at them. When I get there they apparently have moved so I hunker down quietly and I sit and wait....and listen! I am there awhile...I know they are there and I hear them quietly moving around....but I can't see them (man they are tough to see in the woods...even if they are close). I hear one to my right but still can't see it so I move to behind a tree further right and about 30 feet beyond this tree is a dough....real small....maybe 60 pounds soaking wet.....so I crouch down and watch it as it has not seen me yet so I turn on the camera and it sees me....ears go up and it stands there like cement....and so do I! After a few moments it starts to move closer...seemingly to get a look at this big galute by the tree....very curious look on its face. So I take a quick pic and just watch it to see what it will do....and it starts making a snorting noise....at first I thought it was the mother close by warning me to back off but I could not see her. Turns out it was the dough making the noise and it bounds off through the trees to a safe area! I thought that was pretty neat....not having seen many deer in my life and certainly not in my new yard....but they do come around quite often....I am sure they are there alot I just don't notice them. I was unaware deer made any noise like the snorting I heard?

Very cool....I thought I might share a little...I had fun and the pic came out great!:jump:

no seriously, when you figure it out I would love to see the picture

as with you bigfish, deer fascinate me

Larry, did you just print it off the printer? When you upload to the pc you can lighten the picture and that might help.

in the mornings when i go to catch the bus, its about 6:30am and i look out in the fields and sometimes youll see a whole family of them, and the father, is huge with the antlers.. but i find myself standing there staring at them... theyre pretty cool

MotoXcowboy 08-04-2006 11:04 AM

I see them all the time when we are out riding the trails. last month I saw a huge 8 pointer.

put a couple apples out there and you'll have some friends for life.

i have a buddy deep up in NH who has a few trained deers in his back yard, he puts them on his deck in the winter and mommy and babies come by and have a snack... what a hoot.

When I was still living @ my parents I trained horses and we had about 15-20 acres in the back, well the deer would always be in the paddocks in the morning and just before sunset, they were attracted to the salt blocks we would set out for the horses. They would hop the fence which was about 5-6 feet high and run off into the woods whenever the horses or people would get to close or they heard noises they are amazing when they jump.

Venison..... I have been snorted at a couple of times. Theres nothing like a mature buck running through the thick woods at 30mph. It sounds like a freight train .

Viewed this many time behind my daughters house in North Kingstown. She even feeds them. I guess thats why they keep comming back. A six point buck was with them last year!!
