Older Redfins Question
 

Have acquired some 7' and 5.5" models this past year and on the smaller version they have a ball swivel with some type of hanger up front. Anyone with personal experience on how strong these are? The hooks are small and weak looking so I will change those. When I fish these I will use mono and lighten up on the drag.


The 7" ones look good to go.Never realized they made so many interesting paint schemes.... not that I have that many. They seem heavier and better built then modern versions. A heavier gauge plastic it looks.

Have`nt loaded any and like the way they move....and the Striped Bass enjoy them as well.

15cc of water. Drill small hole in head and load then seal, Also seal the rest of the plugs seams with nail polish. Plug after loading should float with it's head above water and tail down. Don't load them all, I use some 7 inch Red Fins like danny plugs swimming right on the surface and the fish like them that way. Loaded is for surf fishing on sand beaches, unloaded for casting into rocks like along the Elizabeth Islands.

On the 5.5 incher with front hook on swivel and some kind of internal hanger............. any strength problems noted? If so any way to beef it up?

The smaller fin that you have may be a sinking model that was discontinued. If the small one has only one stomach hook hanger you have a rare redfin. The large 7 inch size also came as a sinking model - we used to call them red dots because the sinkers had a painted dot on the tail. Always thought our loaded fins fished better than the sinking models except for the small size - that plug was GOOD. Fish it but if you loose it let me know so I can scour the shore where you lost it ;)

What about "G" finish ,, I have a 7" blue/white I don't fish .. so perty . I don't think its old ,cause the older ones are rough surface texture .. This is smooth ,,kinda translucent ..probaly will fish it. haven't got sick of looking at it yet .

Scored a few with that front hanger only. Gold, Green Mack, and Blue Mack....solid little buggers.

Yeah, the time thing worries me sometimes. Seems to be speeding up, too. But I think that I'm learning more because I've realized that I'm not as smart as I thought. I mean, there's whole books about stuff I don't know!!!:shocked:
