Police cite woman in hit-and-run case

BARNSTABLE - A West Yarmouth woman was cited yesterday with leaving the scene of a hit-and-run accident last week that left a Nepalese man with a mangled leg.
Donna Meek, 48, of West Yarmouth will be called to court to face charges of leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to the Barnstable police.
On the night of Aug. 3, Chhodha Lama, 30, was found dragging himself along Commerce Road after being hit by a car as he walked home from his job as a dishwasher at Mattakeese Wharf restaurant.
As of yesterday afternoon, Lama was in good condition at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after undergoing surgery on a crushed ankle and a broken leg.
Barnstable police Sgt. Andrew McKenna and Patrol Officer Carl Hill found Meek's 2003 Acura, which had apparent damage to the front right quarter panel above the head lamp, after speaking with a witness, Sgt. Arthur Caiado said.
The car was processed for evidence and released to Meek, Caiado said.
Lama, who speaks very little English, also works at Cape Cod Organic Farm. According to his employer at the farm, Tim Friary,( Lama told a translator that after a car hit him, two young women got out and looked at him but then drove away. )
''Chhodha knows that someone has been caught. He's kind of relieved,'' Friary said yesterday after speaking with Lama and a translator over the telephone. ''I think he was just frightened by the whole situation. ... I think in his society people are pretty compassionate.'' A court date for Meek has not been scheduled. She did not return calls seeking comment yesterday.

willing to bet she was drunk, a good lawyer will keep her out of jail and she gets to keep her license.

She's not going to jail for leaving the scene. Even with a bad lawyer. :hs:

Hell, she wasn't even arrested---they gave her a citation.
