Bats
I got bats in my belfry...well at least right outside my loading dock anyways :hidin: Lots of them little suckers too, pics are stuck in my camera right now.
This guy bought some lures a few months ago and luckily I remembered seeing his web page when I noticed an unusual email address. It's the real BATMAN :hee: http://www.batguys.com/services/bats/ http://www.batguys.com/images/back/bat2.jpg |
Scott,
Bats are good, they eat probably 3 or 4 ounces of bugs a night each!!! Does anyone have any idea how many misquitos are in an ounce??? |
FP, thats EXACTLY what I told him.
He needs to get some cheap bat houses and have the bat remover toss a few outside or transplant them to the houses. |
One Bat eats 1000 skeeters an hour that adds up to 7000 in there 7 hour feeding time, one bat house can hold 100 bats that is 700,000 skeeters a night just from one bat house. Bats are our friends
|
Yeah they are good, but man they are ugly. They just need to take up a diferent address. :hihi:
|
Bat's are our friends. Just not in my house.
|
We had 1 flying around inside the cabin Sunday night when I was up in Maine. Took me 5 minutes to get it to fly out the door.

We had one flying around upstairs in our house sometime last year.. it startled me, but took awhile to get it out the window..hey if they eat 700k skeeters a night... they can be around all they want... just not in our house..

The Rat Airborne Division
But they do kill the bugs |
I caught one when fishing last year. I don't know if it was trying to attack the tip of my rod or what, but it got tangled up in the braid and one of the guides. Took me like 10 minutes to get it off 'cuz I was afraid to get too close to it :err:
|
We have them in the attic upstate NY. I like them. They dont bother anyone, and as stated they love to eat skeeters.

I'm all for bats except not if they're 1' above my loading dock door. If I leave it open I'm afraid of them getting into the shop then I got a bigger problem.
Lakweed if'n you'd like to build the houses I'll hang them up. But somehow I think your going to be busy this week :D |

You should see how much these things crap every day it's unreal. I can sweep the guano off the floor and 10 min later it's back again. It's like raining bat crap :yak:

Batguys is a good choice. I think the guy has been in half the houses on my street (old houses=easy for bats to get in). We had another clown in here 4 times and he could not get all the bat entrances. Batguys were only here once. Problem solved.
Oh and the guy loves to striper fish. By the way, have any of you bat lovers ever had a couple hundred living in your attic, occassionally visiting your families. Badminton racquet still hangs on a hook in the laundry room. |
heres a liitle bit of obscure trivia.
Bats were almost used by the US as weapons to win WW2 (against the Japanese). The only reason they were not deployed is because the atomic bomb(manhatan project) was completed in time. Any wild guesses as to how they were going to be used. It would have worked too,but would have taken much longer to end the war. If it werent true, u would think you were reading something straight out of science fiction. Fascinating stuff. |

Sounds like you have a family of bats |
I got one stuck in the tip top of my rod while fishin off my dock a few years ago. It got tangled up in the line and i reeled its wing into the top, thought i had a fish but it was fighitin weird. Turned on the light and freaked out. Cut the line and it flew away. Then i proceeded to walk right off my dock, felt like a real champ after that one.

that bat guano is worth big bucks if you save it...
best fertilizer in the world -bugs are 19% protein which is right up there with beef....and of course contain allot of nitrogen...and much more... here's the worms way link...read for yourself http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=IBG400 what ya need is a catching trough /tray underneath-em... they need coolness to thrive.... |
Hey Tinman if I remeber correctly we were going to put little incindery bombs on the bats and when they went to roost in the Jap houses the bomb would dedonate and burn the buildings down
