Reverse Atom Tuning

A friend has asked me to make a reverse atom for him. I have an old amber one that I'm using as a template for dimensions, wire and hook locations. This one's been drilled in the rear chamber so that it fills up with water, which makes it sit and swim a certain way. Was that typical? Or should I tape the holes over and try to match that attitude sitting in the water and the action associated with the empty rear chamber?

Was wondering if the filled rear chamber meant that it had been used in heavier current or someting like that.

Think pencil popper....butt down..nose up out of the water....they were never ment to swim like a pike..combo of walk the dog...a straight shot right out of the water a few time's....then rest/float along...[nose skyward]. repeat.

12-15 years ago I showed a friend how I was fishing a needlefish with a skin on it. He took a reverse atom, hung an egg sinker from the tail loop, put a huge eel skin on it, took it to Squibnocket, and caught his first #50 on it. Said it came in on the surface making a wake. Must have been a helluva hit.
