Dogfish Got You Down?

I don't know about the rest of you, but dogfish have plagued my striped bass fishing and from what I hear from the tuna guys, chunking for tuna has all but disappeared, and fluke fishing has become very problematic due to the abundance of spiny dogfish.

Well, good news "may" be on the horizon as the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commisssion’s (ASMFC) is reconsidering allowing the annual take of spiny dogfish to increase from 6 million pounds to 8 million pounds. A decision wont happen until Oct. 22 (at the earliest), but I for one think that the dogfish population is threatening these and other species such as cod.

Anyone want to weigh in on this topic?

2 million pounds won't make a dent in the doggies. They need to double or triple the commercial limit before we'll see any reduction.

Not to mention that at 25 cents a pound, the fishermen aren't going to want to bother to keep them in the first place.
