Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin dead By staff writers September 04, 2006 02:14pm Article from: NEWS.com.au Font size: + - Send this article: Print Email THE Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead. He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said. It is understood he was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest. He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that's when it occured. Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas. His body is being flown to Cairns. A Tourism Queensland spokeswoman today said the death was shocking and paid tribute to Irwin's "enormous contribution" to his adopted state. Louise Yates said it was impossible to quantify how much Mr Irwin had meant to the Queensland tourism industry. "I don't think we could even estimate how much he brought us through his personality and his profile and his enthusiasm about Queensland," she said. |
Was only a matter of time, with all the stupid risks the guy took. Remember him bringing his infant into the croc pen?
But I guess the risks are what made him famous. My kids liked watching him. Pretty sad news of this got out before his wife was even notified. |
wow
what a shame he didnt get to see his son grow up to be him.
i guess .....only we will..... since there is so much video of him for his son to watch.... he will be missed... |
RIP croc man. he educated millions of people.

What a shame.
His enthusiasm was to intense for a lot of people, but he did far more good than bad, and will be missed. RIP |
Video release tonight?
Someone just told me that the actual video of his death was being aired tonight. Not that I'm sure if I want to see it or not, but has anybody else heard this?
|
Quite the irony for a man who educates wildlife behavior. I guess he didn't see that one coming...
