preferred tail hook on Needlefish

Just curious as to whether most of you prefer treble hook, siwash with feathers or siwash with bucktail on your Needlefish plugs ?

Slipknot 09-07-2006 10:23 AM

Siwash with 4 feathers, a little bucktail and some crystal flash
I try to match close to the color of the plug

Flaptail 09-07-2006 10:54 AM

Like Slip said but there are moments when no dressing at all works better. I use black on dark plugs and white on anything else. I don't believe in matching plug colors on the tail, but tie as Slip mentions. Make the hackles nice and long too.

Siwash with bucktail or 4 feathers and a little crystal flash like the guys said

Siwash with matching bucktail, 2 strands of flash.

frank, I go with long feathers or long bucktail and trim. Having the extra length helps me because it lets me trim the tail down til I get close to length of whatever is swimmin around.

Jigman put me onto this, try zonker strips for a siwash :)

Also, dont overlook curly tail grubs or pork on bare siwash ;)

Siwash no bucktail

5/0 or 6/0 siwash... Have done it both ways and caught fish . I personally like a tied tail on a needle but if I don't have time cause I hate tieing and I suc at it .. I fish them naked .

???? whats zonker strips ?

ThrowingTimber 09-08-2006 11:59 AM

Zonker strips are rabbit fur used in tying flies.

Bunny flies. But does he wrap it or use fletching cement down the shaft of the hook? I tie albie and bonito flies with Zonker strips both ways.

Jigman 09-08-2006 11:05 PM

A little crystal flash, then the zonker strip. Tie it down just like you would bucktail or hackles. Make sure you get the straight zonkers, not the cross cut. The stuff comes alive in any kind of current. Not that it helps me, I can't catch on needles anyway :hang:
