For all your plug-ho's this is as informative as it gets. Was researching an old rebel windcheater I aquired when a friend sent me this link.

Question- It turns out the windcheater is rare and no longer made. My friend says DON'T USE IT- but it looks sooooo sweet and I am dying to throw it:humpty:

What do you guys do with your "special" lures????

the wincheaters they make today, are not the same as the ones they made in the 70's.. I could have the year wrong, but what you want in a windcheater, is pre 83, I think..

the last bass i caught was on an olive/siver wind cheater :humpty:

tried a surg hog with one weight in the middle but using a carolina rig. 1oz. with 4 ft. flora. got it down where i wanted. 1 bass then the i got the blues. ed

For special lures that I acquire, I usually use them, especially when they are such good lures. Why have them collecting dust? At times I have lost them, which is a huge bummer, but that is okay, one day out on BI I will be sure to find the motherload of lost lures.

The Rebel windcheater of the 70's is not the same as today's. Go to the "Some Plugs" thread link and you will see some of my windcheaters from that period. I still carry several in my bag when I hit the beach. The six inch F-80 floating version was the best and was known to my little band of casters then as the "Super Slut" that thing attracted bass to it faster than a hooker on payday in the combat zone. Many memorable catches on them including one 600 pound night on Monomoy way back when. Ask Stiff tip about them. If have 50 or so hanging in the basement. All they ever need is a dab of superglue on the lip to resecure and new hooks and they catch as good as new. The new models were designed more for the southern states fisheries than what we had. Good ol' #^&#^&#^&#^& Pleska, God rest his soul, of #^&#^&#^&#^&'s Wholesale Tackle, once a main source for shops on the Cape in the seventies and early 80's had a connection at Plastics Research and Development Corp ( Now known as Pradco) and we got stuff sent to us in colors we wanted just by making a phone call.
Pink Mackerel, Bone white, Clear, just about anything we could think of we got. Rebels still catch fish.

My best recollection of how good they were was once when I asked Stan Gibbs if he could only have two lures to fish the beach with what would they be? He replied, "a black and silver and a blue and silver Rebel". Pretty cool.

A good friend of mine recently got me 10- 7" windcheaters. They still catch very well and cast like a missile. I would use them without hesitation, and keep an eye on the yard sales. That's where most of mine came from. A guy had a five gallon pail of them just sitting around with rusty hooks for $2 each. New hooks, split rings, and a little touch up paint and they are as good as new. If you only have one, I would still use it, they work that good.If you tie direct, put a split ring on the nose, otherwise no split ring with a snap works good too. Keep hunting for more in the meantime.

Good advice on yard sales and cheap cost of used lures.
But they also my need more then new hooks. Beware of old hardware.....:smash:
