Ok, I brought one home for the table tonight and when I got it out of the car it looked like it had a pink rash on it's belly from behind the gills all the way down, some splotches on the fins and darker pink/red splotches down near the base of the tail. I did not notice them when I caught the fish but they could have been there, as it was dark. I know I've seen fish turn pink over night, but this fish has not been dead much more than an hour.

Is this a sick fish, or did it just beat it self up on the rip rap of the canal as it was dying ? I've never had one that did this before. Do you guys think its safe to eat ? I have it on ice now...

My guess is that you'll probably live through the fall run.

follow up

just finished hearing a report that the F.D.A. after four years deciding on it.....
have approved selling a certain virus included in processed meats
that specifically eat the "bad for humans bacteria" that could grow in or on those ready to eat products like baloney for example.

it will be on the store shelves in 6-9 months. Harnessing viruses to go to war on bacteria that do harm to humans...is an awesome idea.

as far as e coli...bacteria, a cure has been found for that also in the form of a culture in yogurt by a 14 year old high school science class brain-iac girl.

so help is on the way...

Looks like bruises to me.
Did the fish flop around alot on the rocks ?
Did you notice the redness when you first saw the fish after you landed it ?
