Canal tomorrow
Anyone else hitting the canal for the early slack. Should be good all this week for top water action. P.
|
It it's still blowing 30+ SW, don't look for me ;)
|
It was damp and foggy this morning, caught a few small ones on jigs and had a few taps on the bait rod. Kind of a suck morning but I did catch a couple fish, even if they were small. Tuesday and Wednesday
should be better (I hope), not as windy (I hope). |
Don't wait for slack.
|
It is surpose to go around to the NW tomorrow but still strong. I think I may wait till Tues. morn.
|
OMG, i think i could reach the cape side with a cast from the mainland in a heavy northwest wind!
|
NW--fish mid-Canal on the mainland side ;)

paul fished the canal at gallos ,east tide from 5.30 to 9 slow on plgs a few brakes in the middle , sm bass - blues .. i did see a sm school of bones for 10 sec, all n all it was slow ..... same at scorton ldg. on sat .. 1st boat out ,no fish all am , 20 boats buy 7am. fished around inside n deep .....squat.. same story w/ other boats.... should have been hear yesterday
|
Aw Dave I am sorry to hear that. I was wondering how you made out. I stayed at home I guess I didn't miss anything. Yes the yesterday was damn good. I may try on thursday after the wind turns and blows from the right direction. I wonder when and if all those fish will eventually go thru the ditch or head for the race with all this SW wind because there were some impressive fish in that school. Breaking fish of that size would be awesome. Also I have found out over the years that I never get anything in the canal, mostly top water, when the SW wind blows strong. I have tried many times with very little results with a wind from that direction being strong. I now stay in bed when the SW wind gusts at the ditch. Have you noticed that? Paul
|
I have Paul and the water for some mysterious reason gets awfully cold too. Might try it though in the morning then back to the outer Cape for a couple nights then Fishers Island the end of the week.

Paul. I think the ditch got a good shot of those fish. |
15-20 isn't bad. It's manageable.

When it comes to them NOAA reports I take em wit a grain of salt they have been riding the high side of winds an sea's since they made a mistake that cost some lives.25-35 don't happen as often as people think.Thats big winds.Like wendy's chilli force.
Then agian I'm not in a boat. I think if the wind was bigger we still would have got em.There are times of yr u just can't pay attention to the normal things that might turn off fishing.Water temps are getting close to premium so metabs are up they burn lots of fuel, there is more food an they gotta eat for the long haul ahead...We spend alot of time waiting for the fall run well it's here go fishing..the time is now. |
Not much on top this morning, just small fish, real small where I was looking. Flat calm conditions. Tony I take it you are jigging the west tide. I was looking for surface action. P.

I did get one of NIBs devilfish that went about 13-14 lbs on a Yozuri popper. Road fishing :devil2: Plug hit the water 3' ahead of the break and never came back uo ;) Sorry, NIB, I'll take 13 pound bluefish on a 4 kt current anytime over a 15 pound bass, for the fight. I released it, too :rtfm: :rude: :p |
Well it sucked this morning at p195 area. Going back to the beach at least there are some fish there.:ss:

deep this am
Deep this am before the Grady white show --- :)

May try to head down myself when high tide comes around. Went down on Saturday night(11:00am - 4:00 am), caught about 6 or 7 schoolies on a mini mackeral bomber. Didnt see anyone catch anything to keep. I hope it picks up soon
|
The jig guys are getting them, saw a few yesterday morn., but I am looking for top water action. Over slept this morning, if you can call 5 hours of sleep over sleeping. They probably killed them. P.

When did 32" fish become "nice fish"?
Word spread like widlfire on the mainland side yesterday--this particular regular got two "nice fish" jigging somewhere east of the run. Took a ride down to see these fine specimens--one was just legal, the other may have run 32"  Don't get me wrong--32" are my favorite fish to keep and eat. But let's call them what they really are--they're just above schoolies. "Nice" fish start at about 20 lbs, IMO. |

A medium was 15 and under, am I right? The memory's starting to fade a bit. |
This morning sucked at the mussle bed. not one fish taken. A far cry from yesterday.:conf:

Forgot to mention -- today was starfish day for me. I picked up my share trying to get that last good bounce. Man, my arms ache from hauling them in - they are BIG also. 4 1/2 ounces and a 10 inch starfish feels like a 40 pounder.:fishslap:
|
i thought the "old days" were when fish were measured in pounds rather then inches. when you heard a guy say, 'i got a 40 last nite', you knew he meant pounds. now im not that old, but thats how i was raised...
|
I haven't been since the weekend so I have only been dreaming if fishing at the ditch, and the last dream I had, had NIB fighting and landing a humongous starfish, it was pulling drag too so that is weird.
Mike, no a 32" fish is not a nice bass, it's a keeper I guess, I am with you nice is 20 |
